Other Most frustrating moments with your ski.. Let's hear yours!

Dude you win... that blows.

Funny thing is im a auto mechanic, have bragged how great 2 stroke is, so simple compared to the crap I work on daily. And here is problem after problem leaving me scratching my head. Not often have I been challenged like this, or cost me so much money. I rode a carbon superfreak with dasa 1000 right before the seizure, got me thinking how much I really don't use my Ducati haha

I'm 100% motor ignorant. I've learned a few things the hard way, but major issues make me want to run away quickly. Sometimes I cringe when I think about the money I have in my JM781, but its a completely new motor for all intensive purposes and the fact that its been trouble free has made it money well spent. *knock on wood* no issues all season.

I love your duc man... very jealous.

Luckily it was a secondary boat that my son rode sometimes and not my primary ride.
ran great on trlr, put it in water and ran great till you jumped and upon landing seemed to go to one cyl.
plug boots same as above
replaced coil, same as above
tested and replaced a good stator, same as above
checked all wires and no shorts but same as above,
replaced carbs same as above,
replaced top end samme as above
Fuel preasure regulator, fuel filters, I mean I went through EVERYTHING so I thought.
reads a thread on X one day and calls me at work saying "CHECK THE Xmetal waterbox" mind you I am 6 weeks worth of frustrated and cursing at this point but the motor was our and I called my son at the house and told him go out and pull off the waterbox and call me. He did and I said shake it, sure enough baffle busted in waterbox. Removed baffle and it ran great!
Check EVERYTHING now before I replace anything LOL.
What a PIA!

The baffle was clogging the outlet on the water box choking the motor?

stock blaster is killing me

been chasing this demon for too long. replaced, cdi, coil, plug boots, stator, wiring harness, and stop start switch. only happens in the salt, so i know its electrical. after about 20 mins of riding, it starts breaking up under acceleration, and running like the temp sensor is going off, when there isnt one. lol
i know im not the only one to have this problem, and i hate just throwing parts at. thats not how we do things. electrically, its all been gone through, but still happens.

even went as far as putting heat shrink over the plug wires and ends of the boots to keep water out.

the harness really helped it though. not near as bad as it was.

I had the same issue... Reduce the plug gap and try it.

I read your thread went out and tried that, still had the same issue. I did find that one of my spark plug wires had been rubbing on a hose clamp for a waterline it didn't rub through the protective sleeve but it did rub a decent size chunk out of it. I wonder if it didn't cause a break in the wire. Does that seem feasible to anyone? It still sparks fine on the trailer but you know how things go on the water......

yeah, the WSM aftermarket stuff is not very high quality, I prefer used OEM to some of there AM junk, try there motormounts if you like wrenching they are great as well.

Buying new parts that turns out too bee bad, did it twice with a ignition coil from wsm and a starter relay also wsm realy. sucks when you whant too get back on the Water.

Had this issue in surf when using copper core coil wires years ago. Are yours fiber wire or copper? Just something to consider. The 760 coils always seemed to work best.

frustrating season for me...probably small issues compared to some of you but i havent enjoyed this season much. Bought a 2013 SJ and decided i was going to baby the hell out of it to keep it looking new for at least a couple of years. I was disappointed to find the gel coat cracking like a mofo after only a couple months of riding. Then after trying one barrel roll my hood ended up with like a 2" crack all the way through the fiberglass. I also had decided i NEVER wanted it beached since i know black shows every scratch. so what do i do? I naiively let a couple friends ride it. It gets beached several times (even after explicitly telling them not to beach it!) on rocky shores and then one guy manages to beach it on the cement loading ramp..... needless to say, This toy that i had hoped would look new for years to come is completely trashed. Im to the point where i dont even want to look at the damn thing, let alone ride it. I end up taking the 650sx out instead now a days. i can beat the hell out of it and not feel bad. oh well. live and learn.

Stock coil wires break so easily.. When my wires break, I loose a decent amount of power that I notice on the bottom end, and it'll clear up when it's smooth and on plane. It doesn't sound like one cylinder all the time because it still somewhat has a connection. At least that's what I think.

Good chance that is your issue. It might have been grounding at that hose clamp and not making it to the sparkplug.

Except that a hose clamp on a water line isn't grounded unless it is physically touching the motor.
I've seen worn plug wires partially short out against the head pipe or the head.

Duuuuuuudeee....Nahhh. That would have been the first and LAST time any of my friends EVER rode my new sj.... lol I woulda came across my buddies jaw who beached it on a CEMENT boat RAMP...WTF??...Especially after I told/asked them not to beach it..That sucks about your hood too....I feel for you man...Same thing happened with my car a few years back...people don't appreciate things if they didn't pay/ work for them.

brought 2 sxr800s to pismo for the freeride some years ago. busted the steering cable on one in about 15 minutes, then did a nose stab, hit bottom and grenaded the driveshaft and couplers on the other. i killed both skis in 30 minutes, got in a scrap with the bimbo belly warmer i brought, beat a guy up and drove 5 hours back home, leaving the bimbo there. really the only frustrating part was not being able to ride.
