at the lake last weekend, the ski was running like garbage, felt like it was missing a cylinder, low power, and then it would die and the start button would do nothing. then all of a sudden it would crank again.

pulled the motor apart to find a blown out METAL reed, inside the INTAKE! lucked out there, bought some fibreglass reeds and shes as good as new!

Bought a ski in Nov 13'..........August 2 2014 ski is finally running good! Bought a ski and had it shipped. Paint was in bad shape, turf was also. Turf came off, sand the paint. Found foot holds leaked, ride plate mounting screw stripped, impeller hammered, pump damaged, pump seal bad, intake grate damaged. Handle pole was covered with carbon.....poorly. Numerous non stainless parts installed and rusting. Repaired, replace, repainted, re-turfed. Try and ride when spring time comes and runs poorly. Re-jett from seal level.....Ride.....Run poorly. Coil is bad....replace. Ride, tune, runs better, but poorly. Stator bad....replace. Ride, tune......runs better but still poorly. New CDI, carb rebuilt kit, ride, tune.....runs poorly. New domes, shorty cone......ride, tune, runs poorly. Try tuning pipe, jet works flow control, ride, tune.......runs poorly! At this point I am determined to get this thing running. I find versi plug leaking, and numerous exhaust leaks. Fuel lines bad, tank with crap in it. Replace fuel lines, clean tank, fix exhaust leaks, change popoff, re-jett, ride..........runs poorly! Now we are into July, I have been on the lake a dozen times and the turd is still not running good. Low end still has a rich bog and the topend is running out of fuel! Its rich and lean at the same time! I try giving it what it needs and on my last ride in July it drops a cylinder. Compression check and one cylinder is reading zero. At this point I say forget it. I am calling Jetmaniac and ordering a new motor with new carbs! Pulling my old motor apart I find evidence that it had a major air-leak, is my guess. Moisture in the stator and oil all over the stator. Also found my pipe had almost rubbed a hole in the side of the hull. Should of pulled the motor in the beginning and done a leak-down test. I decided to completely go through it. Everything I should have done when I first bought it. Repainted the inside of the hull. Found more exhaust leaks. Pressuried my pipe and found that one of my water fittings was not working correctly. Tuned the pipe hooked up to a water hose. Jetmaniac sent my a 781BB with new carbs and stock intake setup, with his best guess for 5000'! One week later I installed and took it to the lake. Its now broken in and jetting was about 1/4 turn on high screws off. Oh.. and the idle was off by only a quarter turn! JM knows his stuff. Super impressed! I don't fault the seller of the ski in anyway because this is used Jet Skis and I wasn't buying new. I experienced what you would call cascading failures. Hey, its August and I am starting to ride my ski now! If anyone needs a Ported 735 with ADA head and stock 38 carbs that, "needs a little work" let me know! I don't know how many times I keep saying "Stupid Jet Skis" but I guess I enjoy the challenge.....sometimes! This is the third used ski and they have all been turds when I get them. I don't know why I keep expecting something different. It is nice once you get them running good though!

Getting frustrated with engine builders that promise to get things done in a month, then 6 months later not even a call back..........

On top of that getting a good friend to send his engine (as well as mine) to same aforementioned builder and him not getting his back either.l totally understand that things take time, but COMMUNICATION is the key word here builders.Maybe just a quick email to say you hate me or l suck!

Ok,l feel better,but where's my chit

I have been chasing my tail with an issue. Everyone who listens/rides my ski says its electrical. I have replaced my e box as well as my stator twice. Plugs look good and iv been through my carb twice. I thought it could be a broken baffel in my tdr box but that checked out. I am at a loss. And it's been a year since it ran well.

Nope its on the list of things to do. I was hoping I could have it fixed before my son was born because my free time will be gone. At least if it ran I could sneak away once and a great while to ride but I'm doubting that's gonna happen.

I'm sure the wifey will let you. but I would go through the list of free things first. Don't go parts swapping until you rule out all the easy stuff

ski sounded like it was running on one cylinder. unplugged the spark plugs and tested the msd total loss for spark. spark tested good on both cylinders. runs fine out of water ,but put it in the lake and it wont rev past 2 or 3k rpm. both black jacks delivering fuel properly. i chocked it up to a dying msd brain( old school 4270) . took my whole ski apart thinking i was gonna have to replace the complete ignition. bought a complete new school TL system and now im too lazy to put it back together.( i have other skiis to ride) but the frustrating thing is i didnt even think to swap the coil. i even have a new msd coil in he garage. stupid me. please someone kick me.

BUMP! What crazy things happened in your winter builds?!?!
Last winter I was carelessly cutting out my tray..Needless to say, I cut into the pump tunnel and even cut through it in a couple places. Luckily that wasn't too big of a deal.
Then I was using a screwdriver to pry up the tray from the pump tunnel..I got a little impatient and was using a hammer, and I ended up somehow smashing the screwdriver all the way through the pump tunnel in more than one place.
This is what it looked like right before I laid the glass:

Luckily it was an easy fix and turned out nice and clean in the end after a few layers of glass.

Lesson learned: When you're in a frustrated mood, take your time and think stuff out before you carelessly rip out the demolition tools and go to town!

What kinda glass are you using? It takes a lot of messing around to get glass to lay nicely, but some types of glass are easier to lay than others.

I bought it at ace probably my first issue right there , sanded nicely laid everything nicely cut it but always end up with a ton load of extra resin build up then I sand and it turns out really ugly

You're probably using cheap bondo fiberglass matt and polyester resin.. That stuff absolutely sucks to work with.
