Other Movie review thread

Watched Lets Be Cops last night.... thought it kinda sucked. All the funny parts were in the trailer.

Can't wait to see American Sniper.

American Sniper good movie, maybe great. For me though, it fell into that category (formula) of Clint's direction. Better movies- Deer Hunter or Hurt Locker

American Sniper is a very humbling movie man....no glory at all....just realness IMO. Reminds of my old neighbor friend sniper, R.I.P., and the stories stuck in his head...

Man I had kinda ruled Denzel as old but the Equalizer really good so far...

Interesting. Deer Hunter is a classic, for sure. I, personally, hated Hurt Locker. Thought is was one of the most overrated movies I have ever seen. JMO

I cannot wait for American Sniper. Don't know why they didn't just release it Xmas Day Nationwide like they originally scheduled.

Yep, he apparently spent @ 13 summers at a National Park in Alaska and documented his interactions with Grizzlies with the claims he was protecting them from poachers, etc when there wasn't one case of that happening in the park. Rangers and other animal rights folks were against what he was doing and claimed he was actually harming them... human contact is bad for them and if they get too used to it and became troublesome they'd have to be killed.

Apparently he had serious mental issues and the ending of the story is what any sane person would suspect, focker was eaten by a bear. Sad part is he convinced a female friend he knew what he was doing and she was also eaten. Apparently there is footage just prior to the attack and then it's only audio of the attack but they don't show or play it in the doc, only the narrator friends response.
Very sad. The movie is disturbing, I got more out of it about mental illness and obsession with fame than bears.

Saw 'The Gambler' today.......... I know they tried to make it an artsy type take on the original, but the movie was boring as he11. Wahlberg actually did a decnt job of playing a guy with gambling addiction, but it was just toooooooooo slow.

I can't say I have ever watched a show about gambling that I actually cared for. Lot's have tried but it's a tough subject.

I'm not a big baseball fan but the movie "42" was on the other night and I couldn't change the channel. I found his character fascinating.

Disclaimer: I get home from work around midnight and need a good two hours to unwind and find myself watching movies I normally would never watch. Every movies seems better to me when i watch at this time and so i score them higher than normal. Is that just me?

"42" is the story of Jackie Robinson. He was the first black man to ever play in the major leagues. Incredible story. It's been out for quite some time but it took me till now to watch it. There have been more than a few movies that I think are going to be boring that end up grabbing my attention. Captain Phillips and Gran Torino were that for me as well.

every kid in America should be required to read the book Broken. I didn't care for the movie, but the book is among the best I ever read. Everyone should have a role model like Louis Zamperini. I felt the movie didn't do the story justice.

the American Sniper book is very good as well, we shall see if the movie holds up; i expect it will given the director.

If kids read that book, they'd realize it's actually Unbroken. :D

The audiobook is fantastic.

Some stuff I watched recently:
  • The Kite Runner. Watched this right after I finished the audiobook and that movie is one of the most faithful to the original material I've ever seen. Fantastic story, highly recommended.
  • Fury. Actually pretty good. I liked it.
  • The Drop. Fantastic performance by Hardy and Gandolfini. Go watch it.
  • The Prestige. A Chris Nolan film and it sucked hard. Don't waste your time.

I am not a book worm by any means, but I do appreciate our military and like to read about their stories. I am still on the fence about SEALs writing books, but no matter what they do they have my unwavering respect and gratitude. I have read the books and watched the movies to Lone Survivor and UNBroken. Both follow the book pretty close.
After reading the American Sniper book over the weekend, I went and saw the movie. I have to say that this is the only movie where the theater was silent after the movie. The movie did cover Chris Kyle’s personal life well per the book. However, I felt that the movie failed hugely covering what Chris described happening in the book during combat and missions. The movie was severely inaccurate in that aspect and hollywoodized. I don’t want to give anything away, but if you liked the movie, please read the book, you will like it way more. I think we owe Chris that as the words in the book are coming from his mouth without interpretations. I proof read this time Matt.

I don't trust anything I see anymore.

It reminds of our own local "hero" coming home. He got locally famous by making up stories about being attacked in parking lot in rural Ohio. He got caught in his lies. WTF man!!!! This freak played this out til the end and did car commercials and interviews all over our area.

I need to stop watching this crap because you don't know what is true and what is complete *&%&*^# lies.
