MSD total loss vs TS2 Twin spark ignition.

Year i changed the ignition coil too a oem that made it start, but seemes too wante alot off batteri power too starte. It has a new oem starter and relei soo dont think that is the problem, i changed the curve too 14 degrees up too 2000 rpm that helped but still not perfect.

just as a question if you don't plan to try to run timing at 40 why wouldn't you set it at less so the cdi dosnt have to take to much out? I don't understand why and or how they take that much timing out unless the trigger is that much longer then the MSD one the flywheel with the double magnets for the flame are 10 degrees apart so think about the position of the magnet from the sensor. if it needs to take 26 degrees off just to start up is the magnet on the sensor anymore? the second magnet would have come onto the sensor and moved 16 deg and would probably be past the sensor as well. I could be completely wrong but i don't have one to look at

Hmm makes sense i asked ATP about the ts2 witch they set too 40 degrees static timing, where mine (old model) is att 50 they toll me that 50 was right on the old model. 40 is the new reflash version. I did finde and old PM from about spark plug gap hee said it needed too bee att 0.620 mm, i measured 4 brand new ones and they all where att 0.750 after i changed it mine will starte with 7 amp batt.

Updated software, news on ATP site, I have emailed for them to send me the software:
In line with our constant development , We are pleased to announce a new feature for the TS2 Flame Ignition. This enables the user to further retard the cranking timing up to 30 degrees. A new version of our editor and flash no. 0707 are required for this, both available free to existing users, and will be pre installed on all new purchases.

Software actually not ready yet, have to wait
I have ordered MSD TL, RRP ebox, etc from Thrust but they are so busy that it has been 10 days and they haven't got to my order yet

Still no flash from ATP, they are apparently still water-testing
im sticking with my MSD for now been the same since the multi channel came out and xscream seams to use them on they sponsored skies. and with the light on the box to help you set the timing for sure its nice.

My MSD is in, no other changes done to ski and same timing curve, engine runs smooth, no kicking back. So much for ATP saying it was my carbs.
I could get a slight kickback if Start Retard, and Electric Start were Off but nowhere near what the TS2 was doing. Definitely is a problem with holding timing on the TS2
I know Xscream couldn't figure out the same problem on a ski with TS2, so changed to MSD

What ignition coil did you run with ATP ? I hade a JM yamazaki coil lasted 30 sek changed too a oem and it was good. ATP recormends oem

Update: Finally trying the TS2 with the new flash and software. Touch wood, it started fine and sounds good on the trailer. Will ride this weekend and see how it behaves

This is my 3rd year using TS2 ignition and it has been bullet proof. Never experienced any hard starting or kickback.
So good that I put one on a 2nd SJ.

I would like some input on the ATP new TWIN SPARK, because I have the MSD TL in my Freak with a PHP 898 and PFP and had nothing but problems since day one. So Im about to pull the trigger on the ATP system because they said they can send it all set up for my motor set up..

Any input would help.

Thanks guys!

I ran the old ATP TL on my JM 718 it was neer perfect, bought a new gen 1 ATP TL for my dasa 1000 it never worked it was unridabel chased the problem for 6 month. Then change too stock 61x ignition all was good tryede the gen 1 ATP on a stock motor and it worked fin, i now run a MSD TL on a 865 Dan lamey its in a home made inclosure and its the best mod i ever did. If you a having issues it probley you setup or some order issue, i run 3 Ground wires heat shrink on all corniections remove + wire when not riding and remove lid from ebox. This is just my experience the ATP is 50/50 if you ask me

The most advanced ignition systems were gp motor bikes before the two strokes. Now the karts are right up there as well. These guys are making 54 hp out of a 125cc engine. That would equate to a 432hp out of a 1000 cc engine. Have a look at what they are doing. There is a good solid gain in the combustion chamber shape not so much the amount of sparks, firing spark twice is great if you didn't light it correctly in the first place but if it's lit then then you have an inferno in there. In a round combustion chamber it radiates from the centre out so no need for extra plugs

I have MSD on both my big motors no issues and technically if you read way into MSD it fires up to 20 times below 3000 rpm depending on how much time it has to continue to spark before it need to spark agian at proper time. But truth be told on hot spark is much better then many weak ones. So if you are running a single channel it 3000 is actually 1500 rpm before its mono spark per rev.

If there is anything I have learned about Jetskies and reliability its to by new parts and have them setup properly by someone if you dont know how. Listening to others and piecing things together makes for nightmares. No one can send you something and say its setup for your motor because your jetting, altitude and temperature will change things even if parts are all the same.

For example my ski in the winter the jetting is great but the summer its almost to rich. And if i play with the timing maybe take some out since it hotter it might change everything.

I have an RRP E Box so its a pain in the butt to make any changes! Do you have a picture of your set up? I let someone else try to dial it in and they did a poopty job so went threw the wires and soldered them together and I noticed the one stud for 2-3 small ground wires was loose. When you said you ran 3 ground wires what gauge wire did you run?

2 weeks ago it ran good but not the best the guy I let work on it smashed a wire in-between the lexzan glass and box and it sparked and the electronics went dead. Now it slowly cranks and kills the battery in less than 30-60 seconds. I even pulled a plug to make sure there was nothing mechanical wrong and check spark and the spark was hit or miss. I been messing with this thing for so long I just want to ride! I don't know if there is a special set up that I can run but I have it 30deg advanced I believe and switches are right I believe. I wonder if a coil is bad or the MSD box is bad? Im lost.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks Mickey
