Super Jet My First RN Build - Complete rebuild, shorten, and rocker!

Update: Everything is sand blasted finally, including all the hardware!! :) Powder coat paint just came in and getting everything organized to get painted tomorrow. So excited. :D Pics to come shortly pre and post painting.

Also, I need a new trim cable, as the one that came on the ski is a super cheap cable and its all cracked up and rusting. Any suggestions? Been looking at a Pro-Tec cable for $49 on their site.

@Mud-Nut: I did lol. I actually tried taking 4 lengths of high strength upholstery thread and made slip knots on the end, fed all 4 ends over it and cinched it tight with a precision screwdriver and pulled as hard as I could, snapped all 4 threads. And of course a needle nose won't fit in there.

I noticed you blasted your Speedwerx head like you plan to coat it and use it, but JM posted a pic of an ADA head when he said he has parts being shipped to you... Did you order an ADA head as well? If you did, why aren't you using the Speedwerx head? Is there something wrong with it?

Scott, I asked him the same question awhile ago (because I was going to try to snatch up the Speedwerx one from him if he wasn't going to use it). Haha!

Any updates Jeremy?
I rode this past weekend (not mine, but rode Ashley's "new" one).

Finally got everything to the powdercoater. Planning on doing some engine bay sanding this week to prep for carbon and run a new trim tube. Here's some pics of pre powder coat :) uploadfromtaptalk1430752969095.jpguploadfromtaptalk1430752573870.jpguploadfromtaptalk1430752618060.jpguploadfromtaptalk1430752643202.jpguploadfromtaptalk1430752662118.jpguploadfromtaptalk1430752692140.jpguploadfromtaptalk1430752726903.jpguploadfromtaptalk1430752836291.jpguploadfromtaptalk1430752859701.jpg

@Mud-Nut: As requested :)

Pics of cleaning up various parts like the rusted Rad-Dudes Battery Box, handle bars and steering plate(bolts were seized so I couldnt get them out, tried everything and gave up when I nearly sheared one of the heads off), pole spring, ride plate, intake grate, bunch of hardware, and more.

Made aluminum block off plates for the engine to save the powdercoater some time with taping.

Sanded the pump housing. Gonna be rattle canning the pump cause I don't wanna run those parts through the oven and have to dissaemble the bearings and such beforehand.

Looks good! Excited to see it all coated and assembled. I just had my entire exhaust ceramic coated flat black and I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Now I need a ADA head to add that bling factor haha!

Curious if you laser cut the block off plates for the engine? If you did, how did you get the CAD for the engine? or did you just measure by hand and then model it up quick?

@HiImScott: I didn't laser them unfortunately. I was in a rush, kind of a last minute thing so I used the gaskets and the head and marked it out on aluminum and steel for the head and cut them out with a band saw and drill. It was kinda a quick hack job with oversized holes and washers to make up for it lol. Either way Layden was certainly happy that he had less to tape up.

@Mud-Nut: It would appear that way lol. We just finished deciding on the plan for the next few weeks. Looks like I'm hacking off the front to do a custom rocker. :) Good thing I have a sweet 550 to ride while I work on the SJ.

Update: I've just opened Pandora's Box... So today I decided to pull on some turf lightly and it peeled off way to easy, twenty minutes later there was no turf on the tray lol. Then once the footholds were visible and I saw the pathetic glass job the previous genius did. I hesitantly pulled on a dry piece of glass hanging off the foothold... Long story short I was able to remove an entire foothold by just sliding a chisel between th layers of glass. I don't claim to be some sort of fiberglass or composites expert, but I'm fairly certain you aren't supposed to glass over paint (especially un-sanded) , and it isn't supposed to peel off like peel ply lol. As expected with a ski this ghetto rigged, the foam is wet. Looks like I'm cutting out the tray this weekend; it's time for wide tray and shorten :)

@Mud-Nut I've been thinking a 3-4" angle cut. So prolly 4" at the bottom and 2" at the top. And I've been contemplating cutting of the entire gunwhales and moving them out to the edge of the bond rail then lower them a bit.

What is everyone's take on the top deck? Should I leave it as is or shorten it as well? I read a few threads about people recommending to keep the overhang cause it helps with rideability.

I've been thinking of doing that as well. I think it's a great idea, but I can't decide if it's worth all the extra work or not.

Most people leave the top deck.
FYI - My top deck has been shortened significantly, and I end up with a nozzle in an area that isn't so nice. I may extend my tray back a bit.
