My First Stand-up - The story of a 38year old man who makes poor financial decisions.

You're the only one who currently knows about what I bought last night hahaha dude I might have a Jetski problem lol

I had a chance to mock-up my pump and ride-plate again today and made some interesting discoveries... It appears the ride-plate I was planning to use may not work.

I tried some other ride plates and they fit differently (better) than the one I had previously tried.

A pro-tec plate appears to fit very nicely and when laid side-by-side with what I originally mocked up it is pretty clear they have some differences... First, the spacing from the front to the first hole is different and the pro-tec is also substantially thicker.

The D-cut oem ride plate that came with the hull is apparently not from a superjet (at least, I don't think it is)...casting # is GD0-0
The full length oem ride plate that came with the hull appears to be from a waverunner pro (it does not have the water inlet throught the plate) casting # is GD0-00.

I don't really want to cut up a perfectly good pro-tec, so I guess I need to hunt down something else.IMG_20220417_151852845.jpgIMG_20220417_151927481.jpgIMG_20220417_170738587.jpgIMG_20220417_173516504.jpgIMG_20220417_151634713.jpg

Check the bolt hole spacing on that battery box. One I got would not line up.
It actually appears to line up over the old holes, but I'm not sure i will even be using them... Are there inserts of some kind in the hull mounts, or are the fiberglass bosses just drilled/tapped? My holes got filled in with thickened epoxy in order to re-tap them because they were pretty messed up. My hull came with an aluminum sub-floor plate covering them, and the tank and battery were strapped to the plate..i may stick with that depending on what tank I end up using...(the sub-floor is made out of a road-sign covered with turf lol)

OEM there are inserts. If yours has a plate, then you could recenter and tap. That box does not have any room for tolerance. It would have been nice if it was sloted, but the way its designed they really could not do that.

well... I made it a whole week without cutting up that perfectly good pro-tec ride plate...... Used an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel which sucked, but a flap wheel and DA cleaned it up nicely.

This was just prior to going on a sandblasting rampage...

I lost a lot of pix from my phone from that day unfortunately so I don't have the post-blasting pix...but I have a few pix that I texted a buddy that my phone saved in a different folder which wasn't corrupted.

Heres my ghetto diy powder-coating setup...

Yeah........ Should be pretty easy to find when it's at the bottom of the lake!

Camera doesn't do it justice, especially not indoors, but it is BRIGHT...It's not perfect by any means, but for diy it's decent...

I'd like to re-do a few pieces, some thin spots either due to poor application and/or over-curing (I think).

Parts came out great!
Thanks! I've got a few more parts to coat and a few more parts I need, but I feel like I'm getting closer...

I think I'm going to make lists of everything I already have, everything I know I still need, and then hopefully people can chime in on what I'm overlooking or if I'm overthinking things and alternate suggestions... like, I'd assume I need hood prongs/hooks, but I do have the JM ratchet strap kit... do people run hood hooks AND ratchet straps, or only one or the other? I would think both would be safest, especially since I'm sure my ski is gonna land on its side a bunch haha

You deff want hood hooks. More crap holding your hood on the better. If you are new to stand ups and planning on riding surf you are going to land upside down and side ways more then you think. :)

Ok. Honest opinions... Are these too far back?

They are Tom21 tubbies and this is the only orientation where they fit the contour of my rockered pre-08 bottom half...the rear is about at the middle of the pump tunnel. I don't know enough about 1.jetski handling in general 2.proper sponson placement for desired effects... I'm really just going off of pictures I've seen of skis with tubbies and I don't think I've seen any that go so far back... As I would likely epoxy these on, I kinda want to get it right and not have it ruin how the boat rides (obviously)..

Thoughts?

Yeah they were way too far back... The rear hole would have been screwed into the tray..no bueno..

I think this is more suitable but I'll have to back fill a few areas with foam and trim the front and cap it with epoxy...yay...more sanding.
