Has everyone missed the fact that it's either 110" or 120" long? That's either 9'2" or 10' long, this is a 3-seater hull, not something close to a Blaster or HX or even the old SP/X-4 hulls. The literature even says the weight limit is perfect for 2 adults and a child.

It's a cheap, slower, plasticomposite hulled sitdown. I think it's a great product, but this has zero bearing on standups/blasters/etc.

The X4 hull is 100", the article specifically said they added 10" to the X4 and it looks to be (approximately) the same weight.

They may be selling these as 2up and 3up models, but according to the guy over on green hulk who tested these, thats really pushing it. He said you have to have two small people to get 2 up on the 2 seater.

If I'm going to buy a new couch (and I own one), it needs to be able pull tubes, skiis, etc....So I would have to upgrade to a 3 seater to be legal, then probably upgrade the motor so it's powerful enough, and at the end with all the upgrades, freight, taxes and I'm in the Yamha and Kawi price. So in the end I would rather stick base model Yama or Kawi 1200. If I want a fun two seater, then I will buy a used Blaster and at least I can work on it. I'ts like buying a car...they get you in on a base price model, then you realize you need the expensive one, or they don't even have the base model. Happened to me with my last car. They advertised new Altimas for $18 k brand new, but no one on the west coast had one, so I took it into my pooper for $24 k for a fully loaded one. Just my opinion.....Seadon't!

90hp in a 4 stroke is very different than 90 hp in a 2 stroke. Way more torque but nothing the right impeller pitch couldn't fix. Go back and read my post #60. I have already played this game before in the land of snowmobiles.

For watercraft use? A 900cc fourstroke makes less power than our typical 701 . 90HP at 8000rpm would not make much thrust for playing and would be slower than a limited SXR.

Yea, but what about if you put a turbo on it. A hydrospace is a twin cylinder turbo 850 cc.

I personally can't see a single reason why this isn't a positive thing for the entire PWC industry. I don't have any interest in riding a couch, but I own a PWC repair shop and I love jet skis. Without something like this coming out the industry is headed towards death. I have had a rash of customers this year who are disappointed because their old 2 strokes aren't legal on lake powell. When they find out the cost of upgrading to a new 4 stroke they just laugh, sell their old skis and exit the sport. The reality is that most of these customers would probably jump on a brand new ski like the spark at $5000 even if its not super powerful, unstable or has a ton of upgrades. The fact that they have a warranty and its fuel efficient, as well as inexpensive is what they like. I don't necessarily think that the spark will have any impact on the standup market, but keeping the couch market alive and well is important to every rider. I see good things to come.

well said! It wont impact us, but it is a push in the right direction for the sit down market. Not everybody needs a $12000 supercharged couch. I like the fact that although it is still larger, it is smaller than most of their monsters or should I say small boats they have now. Honestly, there is nothing personal about the newer personal watercraft, the spark is atleast a push in the right direction. Not only bringing a cheaper entry into the sport, but bringing back more "freestyle" rather than top speed to the sit down world.

I say less than a month from the day they hit the showroom floor. I'm already bugging my wife to let me pick one up for her ski.

Yamaha did something very similar about 7 years ago in their snowmobiles. They had switched their entire lineup over to massive 4 strokes that responded very well to turbos and such. It was nothing to have 325hp 2 days after you bought your ski. After about 3 years of offering these monsters, Yamaha came out with a 90hp 500cc twin cylinder 4 stroke and brought back the Phazer. I picked up a lightly used one for my ex for $5500 out the door. It was a goofy looking thing but I ended up riding it more than she did. I had a 2003 Skidoo Summit at the time with the 800cc Rotax and 151" track. My ski was rated at 165HP but that little 4 stroke was so well balanced and engineered that it was more nimble and way more fun even though it weighed 150lbs more and had almost half the hp. It was great on fuel, near impossible to get stuck and was just an all around funner machine. They offered a turbo for it as well that would have boosted it to 135HP but I never got the chance to do it and ended up selling everything and moving to the US.

Here's a writeup on the turbo'd Phazer here; http://www.montanayamaha.com/mcxpress_pdfs/phazer.pdf

BRP offered a fun and lightweight 2 stroke model which my boss at the time had a pair of for his kids. He bought my Phazer for his wife and said it was a much nicer ski and drank way less fuel. Even though similar in cc's and HP, the 4 stroke had way more torque which is ideal in a snowmobile.

One month, that long ha-ha

turbo 4stroke + freestyle = nofreaknway IMO, torque and power are great things but water ingested 4strokes are a very bad thing.

"According to Watercraft Performance, "The four-valve ACE 900 employs a cyclonic air box with a unique ball valve drain to ensure zero water ingestion into the engine. The closed-loop cooling system does so via an aluminum heat extractor bonded into hull, which doubles as the motor mounts."

Nope fmx are still on 250cc 2 strokes.

At least seadoo have an option to fill in the gap up the front with a glove box. Looks like a pwc version of the scion xb... they are offering graphics kits
