Please make sure you have compression, then squirting in gas should make it fire unless the timing is way off. It's sparking well in the vid but is it at the right time.

Compression - Check. It's there at ~175psi per hole. It looks like it is a timing thing. I'm pretty sure I was at 31 static, with -2 Max Timing putting me at 29, but I'll take a closer look at it next weekend. The toughest part about working on this thing is that I can only do it on the weekends, when I want to ride!

I think we're worried that you ride with leaky carbs. What exactly is leaking?
They're not so much leaky as they just seem to get wet around the plates on the back of the carbs. Probably the crappy SBT seals I have in there. I should buy a rebuild kit directly from Mikuni.

And switch your plug wires to see if it'll fire, just for the hell of it...
Only have one set :-/

Just to make sure it's checked off your list, what did you set the air gap at between the pickups and the magnet on the back of the flywheel?
From what I can recall, the airgap was 0.094" right at the top of the limit. How do you adjust for this, mini shims of some kind?

There are kidney shaped spacers (identical to the profile of the mounting tabs on the bottom of the pickups) that MSD makes. They are typically included with new pickups but may also be sold separately.

What's the deal with what I am reading that some people have mentioned that you have to subtract 5 degrees from your actual static setting? Example: If you set at 35 static, you are actually setting at 40.

Is this just something that the analog system encounters?

Set a little more static advance that you intend to use. Then use the dip switches to retard it. Gives you flexibility to adjust timing without removing the flywheel cover or flywheel.

Right but I read in two places that the static settings are not actually true. I get the max timing subtraction bit

I see I see.

So right now, if I just set my Max Timing back a few more degrees, I could likely solve this problem if it is in fact a timing issue? Instead of cracking open my FW cover and readjusting the static setting? Also, the Max Retard Speed - does that go off of the net Max Timing setting or off the Static advance?

Your sure your dip switches are set correctly?
Your brain isn't set to test mode is it?

I surely shouldn't be. The dips I put up in the first post are the actual settings on my brain (in red).

Plus I don't think it would run at all if it were in test mode, and it ran. It got me from the ramp to my dock.

Okay, I didn't realize those were your actual settings. Per that post you're good.

And they do run.. sort of in test mode. I got two rides on my TL when it was set up and then lost what I thought was spark on the rear cylinder. Turned out the brain had been left in test mode.
