Nose Modification "rocker" Thread.... making a sj a better surf ski.....

seems to me it would be easier to do this by making a mold off the current bottom deck. Filling in the areas you want to create rocker in with bondo or something simular (IN THE MOLD) then make a new bottom deck off that mold. I would do like the FS2 shape on bottom if it were my build. The center keel seems just like SJ (straight) the side chines are ROCKED from just in front of bulk head to the front and back like 2.5" from the center keel / ride plate. Looks like it would be AWESOME.
Just my opinion.

The center keel should not be rocked accept at the very nose a little.

I haven't done a lot of this work, but was thinking of removing the waterbox, ex, and motor. Then completely foaming the inside of the nose. Cut the nose off of the foam and reshape the foam. Then glass over the foam and remove any unwanted foam when finished. And maybe install a tow loop when done. It'd be a lot of foam though....

NVJ775 I think you have the right idea.

I have been working on my old SN and thats what I did. I have done it twice because I did not like the way I shaped it the first time. The second time I built a little box around the nose for the foam to stay in. I have also used modeling clay so that I can add to the foam whan I take to much out or want to try a different look. When I get done with the out side, I will remove all the clay and foam and lay more glass from the inside.

WB1994,
So which design on your X-2's did you like better? The V shape or the flat bottom all the way up the nose?
TIA

I dont have alot of time on the new hull but I like it better so far. It turns on a dime at slower speeds due to the shorter nose and wide flat center.

Sorry it took so long for my reply. Im not on here too often.

I rockered my Blaster 1. I figured I would try and rocker just the bottom and not chop the whole nose off. The main reason was I wanted to keep the stock gastank mounts.

I cut out what was needed , then I backed the hole with cardboard so I didnt need alot of foam , then I shapped and fiberglassed the outside , then I scraped the foam out of the inside of the hull and fiberglassed the inside. I should have this at the spring WaveDaze.

I just picked up a blaster hull with a smashed up nose so it seems I am about to rock one of these as well. I have yet to dig in but I plan to keep a bond rail in a smaller and raised form. Similar to a superfreak I suppose. I'll start a build thread once the dust starts flying...

Painted the bottom , turfed the nose with scrap pieces. Had to melt the front of the gas tank a little because of the rocker. Waiting for motor parts so it wont see the water til next weekend.
