OEM lightened flywheel review

So, a few months back I bought a used OEM 6m6/61x flywheel & stator from a member here or at PWCtoday (don't remember who) and finally got to try it out yesterday.
I already used a std OEM 6m6/61x flywheel and stator on my 62t cased motor, so I just swapped flywheels, did not move or adjust the stator or anything else.
I could tell an improvement right away, the motor rev's much quicker and I was very pleased with the increase in performance. Makes the ski feel much snappier. I let some friends ride it also, and they noticed the difference also. It's nice when you do a somewhat inexpensive mod and can really tell a difference right away!
I think the guy I got it from said Paul Lehr's shop lightened it, but I'm not 100% sure. There was metal removed from the outer edge, next to the ring gear, not off the face.

Anyway, I give lightened flywheels 4 out of 5 woots. :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot:

its not taking the metal off that is hard to do, anyone with a lathe can do it. but making sure it is still ballanced.........can you bubble balance like a old tire and wheel shop back in the day?

I have found that you need to take the weight off the outer edge & balance. If the face is cut, the flywheel WILL CRACK, takes about a year, but it will happen.
I also found that 6/10s of a pound is the magic number to remove.
cost is $55 for the mod, Most shops are about the same.

this is one of the best bang for your buck mods you can do, even on a 100% stock ski you will notice the difference. The 61x is slightly better then the 62t due to the slightly smaller diameter so the rotating mass is closer to the center. just my .02

yes you need to say a little something about balancing. cause while it may not seem like much has changed- it only needs to be off a little to start to have an effect on almost the entire engine. domino effect style.

Don't get me wrong, I would much rather have a RAD charging flywheel for sure. But, I paid only like $120 or so for the lightened flywheel AND the stator.
Lightening the OEM flywheel is a great bang for the buck mod, IMO.
You can't beat $55 for a mod that actually makes a diff you can feel.

Lightened stocker here too (Paul) and it made a very nice noticeable difference.

It's roughly a 1/2 pond removed from the outer face/side.

I will never go back but I would go charging alum if they were like 200 new.
