Surfriding opinions on changin wavedaze to early may next yr?

talk to pete,he use to do it in Oct there for the jersey rager with lpw and it was always a packed event mostly northern crowd I think we were the furthest southern group, any coastal city is going to block june-sept for tourist season, outside that you should be good

I'd really love to make this ride but can't due to the timing. I'm just recouping from the Surf Slam and trying to prep for Daytona at this point. Earlier in the year would be perfect for me.

Any month besides September and October are great. There is just waaaay too much else going on in October. World Finals, Jet Waves, Hossegor Air Festival, Pismo Rager. If you guys can continue to grow this event, it will draw people from around the world like Daytona does. So there is no point in planning it the same month that the rest of the world has freeride events also...and they have that freeride vendor show in Havasu ;'-) .

i like october cos its like an end of season ride, depending on which weekend in may i would go, i normally head back to the uk the last weekend of may

ross, that is one of the main reasons we wana change it,when we started it was a small thing ,but now its gettin huge and guys wana ride more days than just the weekend, and like you said so much is already going on in oct. May 1st the law changes here,so the last weekend in April makes the most sence,it also gives everyone almost 4 months to recoup from Tona, but its still cold in many parts of the country so more guys will be feenin to ride as well by then.alot of guys are finishing there winter builds around then also, maybe a best build contest would be cool also?

Something else that could happen as well for the guys who really like the end of season ride,if we put on a small get together here 2 weeks later the weekend after the 15th of oct,the law changes where we can ride off the beach again,it wouldnt be a permit deal and raffle like wavedaze is,but it would be cool to setup the host hotel for a group of guys and ride for a weekend in oct as well.

Interesting dilemna...if you can do it in May and get more days that would be great. I would come for a week! (Avg. temp is 3 degrees warmer in May) I think MAY would be killer and fill the void from the Lanier Rides that always kicked off the season. This also moves it farther away from Daytona. I think it would be HUGE in May. I also agree with Ross!!!

But April is NO GOOD. Avg temp is 6 degrees colder than Oct. October is a tough month...there are already a bunch of Northern rides at the end of Sept. WaveRave and NYTeam Extreme. May is way too cold for a JERSEY ride....

Last week in April FTW. The water will be fine. You guys get warmer temps down there than we do here in april and we are riding by then up here. I haven't been to a wavedaze yet because of the date. It never seems to pan out for me. A beginning of the season ride would be much more manageable though.

DJ i really should have put april in the title, its not going to be much diff temp wise between the last week of april and the first week of may,the big diff is once it hits may 1st the law changes and we cant ride right out front of the hotel off the beach all day. I see this as the second biggest problem.last weekend in april,if guys wana come in 4 or 5 days before and after the setup of the event is done and ride everyday they are good.

From my memory the surf is usually pretty good around this time,is there anything out there that gives average wave heights each month?

beginning and end of the season is usually good waves on our coast. Summer is usually flat unless we get a big storm or big wind.

What are the water temps in April? A few google searches came up with ranges of avg temps from low to upper 50's in VB. Which in a full suit is not bad at all to me, but if you get skunked with cold air that weekend it might keep a lot of the nonhardcore riders out of the water. Big difference from the mid 70's water temps that wave daze gets in Oct. The thought of having it as a season kickoff ride is a pretty F'in cool idea. Its a tough call. I def agree if you want to really get more people to come, you have to have surfriding more days outside of the permit window.

It is full suit water temps, but almost all freeriders have one,so no big deal there.

Yea we will always have the quads there for the permitted part of the ride regardless of what month it is,we may even get away with having at least one there even before the event starts for the extended stay riders.
