Surfriding opinions on changin wavedaze to early may next yr?

Any month besides September and October are great. There is just waaaay too much else going on in October. World Finals, Jet Waves, Hossegor Air Festival, Pismo Rager. If you guys can continue to grow this event, it will draw people from around the world like Daytona does. So there is no point in planning it the same month that the rest of the world has freeride events also...and they have that freeride vendor show in Havasu ;'-) .

ross just might know alittle something on the date subject

f it....lets ride everyweekend!...j/k

i'm gonna see what we can do for the rager in oc.

thats gonna be on the to call list....
call oc and see if we can have a demonstration on the beach front...in may

that way we can hit the shoals and assateauge...watcha think?
and still leave the october ride in va where it should be...respect!

oc has better waves in the spring and walking to thrashers to get some fries would be the shiznit!

oc wavejunkies chapter out...:grumble:

I def like the idea of having Wavedaze in the end of May beginning of April. Water/Air temps should never be a problem, we have dry/wet suits for that. Waves always seem to be better around May/April. I would also like to start making some of the west coast rides and that would open the door for some of us junkies to make those rides as well!!!

They are not for everyone. I'm just saying no water temp is going to keep me from riding unless the water is frozen over or the gas in my tank freezes!

Wilkey for President. Why ask for a date change when you can simply ask for a second weekend? Don't be afraid to up your donation amounts. I am sure everyone on here would pay a little more to have two weekends as opposed to one.

There ya go...no need for drysuits if it was 88 and 90 the last two years...thats warmer than Oct...

So its warmer.
Better Swell.
7 Other jetski events going on in Sept & Oct.
Sponsors could make it.
Pro Riders could make it.

Sounds like a 5x win to me to change the date.

water temps will also be no diff than the average tona or pismo ride at the times they take place,no dry suit needed. decent slippery full suit and your good, alot of the northern cold bloodeds will prolly rock spring suits like they do in tona.

that said,I ride alot and love my dry suit,If you ever had a good gore tex one with relief zipper and built on dry socks to try you would use nothing else.If im getting in the water to ride and its not for the purpose of cooling off,im wearing the dry suit,Be standing around at tona after riding in cold wind and not even feel it,I can get in and out of it twice before you get a full suit on,and im already in my street clothes and dry at the ramp when its cold and others are stuglin to get in there car wet and freezing. Its way less bothersome and restrictive than any wetsuit and never get sand in my shoes. I dont care what the water temp is if air temps are cool at all im wearing it.best $ any yr round jetskier could spend, even in northern fl

Late April would rock, the guys that finish their builds sooner around here always seem to get all the fun Spring surf. Guys could plan longer trips to make it really count. Flatwater Friday would become ride where you want to Friday

The information below should assist with proper decision making:

These are historical average air temps for Norfolk, based upon the years 2007-2010 (statistics pulled from NOAA):

Oct average is a high of 76.55 and a low of 58.35
April average is a high of 69.00 and low of 49.85
May average is a high of 72.33 and low of 55.35

This is an accurate link for an idea of your average monthly water temps:
http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/dsdt/cwtg/satl.html

The link for swells posted by someone else within this thread states it is for New England. You can pull accurate details for VA within NOAA’s Site if you choose.

josh,Allen said our only issue would be may15 through sept30,they are not so creedy with the beach outside those dates.

those temp averages dont mean much April is our biggest break weather month, the temps from the begging to the end are night and day,we hit crazy high temps in late april

...those temp averages dont mean much..

Well now you are being even more amusing Torr, those figures are your monthly mean average air temps based upon four years of data. If the statistics did not mean anything, scientist would ignore them, businesses whose livelihoods depend upon weather to survive would ignore them, and our tax dollars would not be spent in VAST sums to produce them. You can hope for one of those record breaking temps on whatever date you choose, even if it is in the middle of summer, but that is all you can do (other than maybe a lil surf dance). The best you can hope for is to not have a record breaking low, much colder than the temps I listed! End of the season months are warmer waters, since the sea has had all summer to heat; additionally, you have the chance of a swell for some surf with it being hurricane season, for those who are interested in such things.

Hopefully your bosses hold off on trying to permit, acquire the charity first, see what works best for them since the charity is their local partner, then sponsors, and go from there. The Junkies track record of a draw with existing dates will speak volumes; an unproven date will cause them pause, just as it does most others. The chosen charity will probably be wise enough to realize that warmer air and water temps are critical factors for higher attendance up there, and of course their interest is higher donations (plus their time is valuable); and again, if there is a good working relationship with a powerful entity of a local charity, they can open doors within the local community that the Junkies can not.

Suzi, why do you care so much?
It's not like you actually ride.

Is this event for the sponsors or the riders ? If the latter, than I could use a ride around April.
