Thanks for all the encouragement… been stalling about 10 years as well. Keep hearing about bad experiences but at 70 I can’t wait much longer. Even been thinking about getting a couch!
BTW I am BruceinSb over on PWC Today
Thanks again…

A lot of people said it was going to hurt really badly and that PT was going to kill me , neither was true and they had an incredible program , so far and I was in less pain after the surgery than before I went in , most of the post surgical pain disappeared within two days.

Here is what I think , years ago it was exactly as they described but they have come a long way with hip replacement and knee surgery in the past few years , find a good Dr that specializes in what you want done , mine specialized in knee and hip replacements and sports medicine , Baptist has their own surgical operating rooms just for ortho and everything went like clockwork.

The main thing with this program was preventing infection at all costs which is a really big deal with replacements like this.

Nice to see you here Bruce.

We’re you offered any kind of procedure that 3d scans the existing joint and uses the digital information to select the most appropriate implant and it’s best alignment location? I believe it’s called Kinematic…

No nothing like that was suggested , I did get a look at the report the other day at PT and they seem to gotten it right on the money.

Terry and John, well wishes to both you guys. I'm just now getting close to 50 but so far so good. I don't want to go through any of that crap!

Thank you. I too am SO excited to be done with this. Same as Terry, my surgical pain was far less than I was used to before. I have to remind myself it is "OK" to stand on both legs now. I have been limping for so many years I have to actually think about trying to walk straight. My doctors say it will take my brain a little while to relearn to walk normal.

The surgical area is still tender and the muscle in the left front needs some serious strengthening where they cut the muscle but honestly it only hurts now when I get in and out of a chair or the bed , but three days in that pain is minimal. PT again at 11:00 today.

At this point I am just pushing the walker around , it isn't really needed but I will stay on it till I get that leg strengthened back up.

When she clears me to do so I start daily workouts at the gym as laying around the last few years I have put on some excess weight .

I plan on riding this Summer whatever that takes , two years of not riding standups or motorcycles is quite enough for me.

I asked the physical therapist about getting off the walker and use crutches , she said actually I was doing well enough to just use one crutch on the opposite side , so thats where I am.

Disc replacement seems to be going well in Germany. I hear that the US is testing it. I hope Canada get into it soon, so that it's free for me. I have five that need to be replaced.
l have heard that Germany is on the leading edge of that tech

To me the worst thing about this surgery is the downtime sitting around doing basically nothing , I feel like there are so many things I should be doing right now but can't really , there are only so many movies you can watch or naps you can take and like John stated earlier retraining your brain not to limp is hard , it's a protection mechanism that is deeply rooted , I still use the walker sometimes just to try and get my gait back where it needs to be , I know I don't need to limp anymore, my brain is another story though.

This is by far the hardest thing to get used to for someone who is on the go all the time. I just spent 8 weeks out on comp for lower back injury. Herniated S1,L3,L4,L5

First two weeks of relaxing and sleeping in were awesome. Day 15 I was crawling the walls but couldn’t physically do the things I wanted to. I’ve been back to work since thanksgiving weekend and I have to remind myself to slow down and do less everyday. It’s hard to do

What l see with our age group (old as fck lol) is still thinking we can do what we did in our 30’s-40’s. l had to realize that it’s not worth the pain and perhaps injury to try. l work with two hands that have had multiple surgery’s, a torn bicep, and a repaired rotator cuff. lt’s not giving in or giving up, it’s just realizing that ya just can’t do it like you used too.
Rant over..;)

I am walking around pretty well with no assistance from devices now , I went to physical therapy this morning and she seemed very surprised that I was walking without crutches or a walker , she has concerns that my recovery time is too advanced , I explained what I did everyday before the surgery and then she understood a little better.

Apparently most people that have this surgery are older and in worse physical shape , not that I consider myself in shape, so her concern is that in my case the muscles are outpacing the hip replacement as far as recovery time goes, I was warned to take it really easy till past the 12 weeks and that total recovery time on this is at the one year mark.

Personally I am not sure how long I am going to sit around before I start working again but most likely it won't be 12 weeks.
