I rode some today, didnt get too crazy because i have to work tomorrow. I had a bit of a comfort curve, as they were different than my stock bars. I was also concerned about riding too aggressive. Once i had a helmet on i rode the course, theres a lot of metal up there. My knee bumped the back end of the steering when i tried to do some freeride, so i didnt do that as i was concerned. I have an idea to make a pad for the back before i get too crazy. Havent recovered from the last injury cant risk another.
The ride was great. I tried it down and with the 4x6x9 yoga block on all sides. The 9 made no sense so that didnt last long. The 6 was super comfy but hard to get up on and had the cg way too high. My favorite was 4, which makes it 6 inches hiher than it was. Ill probably go lower to 2-3" but for now its a good heiht to unload my back. The yoga block was also a good shock absorber.
Install was easy other tha the throttle cable issue, but that has nothing to do with the steering. It also lined right up with my umi cable mount so no asteering cable adjustment was needed. The steering was very smooth. Much better than stock and umi. The lock bolt made a huge difference keeping the slop out. It was easy to get it setup and easy to retighten when the bushings fully set in and pushed out the extra grease. None of that stock nonsense, oh its too sloppy, now i cant turn the bars, blah.
The steering was also much quicker than my umi, even with the same cable position, due to the lack of sweep in the turn plate. Also i didnt even notice how super wide the bars were because the pivot threw so fast.
This part is a great option for guys who want fixed steer superjets but dont want to drop $1500 on a hood. My buddy who is a diehard fixsteer guy always complaining about my superjet not wanting to ride it was loving it. He even threw down a 180 nose stab out of no where and has never ridden my boat anthing like that. He was instantly at home with it because the ovp throws like a quad, mtn bike, etc. The heiht with the 4in block and high rise was very close to his x2 side by side, but my -3 pole was a little far back. A -7 pole would probably line up with the x2, but i think -5 would probably be best. Trying to talk him into a setup like mine and ditch the x2.
Hopefully ill continue to feel better and get some more practice in, and get to really throw this thing around. The rake on the bars was prety natural for the course and i really liked it, but its going to take some adjustment to the higher position and rake before i feel comfortable trying tk freeride it.
