Freestyle Power Factor Pipe Myth

and then the ski becomes 3x louder, and then you run a much higher risk of water feeding back into the engine

Powerfactor pipes without waterboxes suck. They are so loud and give our sport a bad reputation.

Everyone besides dk says that the waterbox helps with low end power and exhaust noise is reduced to that of a ported 701 with new xmetal box.

Was just a suggestion based on my personal experience with the set up. I prefer more power over the noise, though. I'll admit, I've locked up my motor a few times because of no waterbox, but I just can't ride it with the box, just feels so under powered.

And PWC's will always have a bad reputation, regardless of noise, pollution, etc. We've had a bad rep for the longest time, and it's never going to go away. Anything that uses oil will be blamed for some type of 'killing the environment' crap. Tree-hugging hippies will always complain about something (but at least they've focused on Wall Street now!)

Maurice, you can re locate the battery in the left rear corner of the hull. You just gotta make a new battey box holder

but the problem I see is to make the fastening of a battery box to the hull, and the second problem is that there must be a place where one can take away and put another battery fast.sin having to remove the battery as total loss.une of jetworks baterry can work lying? I say this is another good location near the water cja low power factor of the tube.

as you see it?

greetings steve

ps: when you pass me your own list of products that I can put my site to sell.
thanks

Chris, thanks for doing this install and posting up your thoughts, Frosty and I are considering the same thing later this spring on our 850s

I've ordered one of Brian @ Thrust as well to go - it's going on my 847 6mm DASA - will be running TL, full specs and Mag 144 pump. Should be in on 27th Dec.

Just noticed - the pipe in this picture doesn't feature the 'Power Factor' logo - please tell me you sprayed this out?

Jim

Jim, the logos you see on everyone's boat is a sticker.

so do you suggest using the water box kit and not using the box, or use the
Kit with Resonator

Can I just point out.. we've figured how to get more bottom end outta these things than a factory pipe :)
XFS Xscream 865 on first bore @ 210, Novi 48's, VF2s, Flame TL, 144 Mag, 13/18, PFP with resi and the big secret... 13psi pop-off ;)
Its been said my 865 is the quickest ever built, many couldve sworn it was a 1000 (srs)
Downfall with the resi... My motor has taken on water thru the exhaust manifold every time I've taken it out.. Im only talking about pulling the ski down from the sand, spinning it round 180 degrees then hydro locking it instantly :s
Strong spark from the flame has allowed me to start it on its side without taking the plugs out tho.. Still very annoying, cranking kills the battery quickly.

not to mention you may end up bending a rod sometime.. if your hydro locking it

I dont get it... How can the water box hurt performance so much that it is a noticeable power loss?
DK, are you sure you are getting that much more power without the water box that it warrants not using it? Even a competition ski has to pass the DB test at most races these days..
This is all kind of confusing.

We did back to back testing, with and without the waterbox on the same ski. Turns out there's a huge difference between nosing in flips, and landing flips on your tail. I've ran the set up for about half a year, someone suggested that the waterbox ADDS horsepower, so we bought one, threw it in, and went to ride. Had to change the prop a couple of times to find the one that worked the best, and I just didn't like it. Could hardly get flips around at all. After a couple of weeks of trying to get used to it, we just pulled the waterbox out, switched the prop, and things were back to normal.

Plus, the ski isn't so obnoxiously loud without the box that it annoys people, I've never had anyone complain about it. It's still just a little stock stroke 865, it's not making that much noise to begin with anyways. We've built GP Race skis with waterboxes that are louder than my freestyle ski, and they've never been questioned about noise.

DK, you seem like a nice kid and very pumped about freestyle and promoting our sport and your business but you should rethink your attitude toward others and what big kahuna is telling you to consider.

Also, powerfactor pipes (and any ski) without waterboxes are abnoxious! I have been on a private lake for over 10 years and jetskied constantly with jetski parties, video shoots, etc. And never had any issues with neighbors. As soon as powerfactor pipes without waterboxes started showing up at my lake, my closest friend/neighbor complained about the noise!!
I was so happy when the powerfactor waterbox came out and now a crazy 1100cc beast with powerfactor isnt any louder than a ported 701

Anyone running one in an SXR yet?

I could probably sell my wet pipe for $600 and I was going to buy a TDR waterbox at $200....maybe someday. Though I'd have to say goodbye to river rides.

Totally agree.

Interestingly I had this water box/no waterbox conversation with a good friend of mine (Ant Burgess) a few weeks back - he told me that he'd been doing some back to back tests with/without the waterbox for Xmetal earlier this year and the found the back pressure offered by the waterbox boosted power by a healthy margin, two stroke pulse wave or something. Guess all setups will behave in different ways to the same changes. Personally I'd take the waterbox and my local lake over a noisy pipe and nowhere to ride. We all need to coexist and I wouldn't want a neighbour running a noisy crosser past my riding spot all day. JMHO..

I hear ya Dk i don't want to make it any louder than it already has become. Im going with total loss after daytona to get that bottom end it needs. The boat you rode at WF, did it have a water box?
