Thanks guys, I appreciate it tremendously.

I am moving this week, starting a new job/career the week after, and can't leave my wife alone with the new baby and two other boys.

If he gets it running.

Even if he does get it running he still has a lot to do to the ski to be able to have fun with it. Come on Tim you and I both know a stock blaster is about as fun as a Honda.

a stock blaster is worth over 1,200.

I've bought ski's I've never planned on fixing up just to resell. I'd be happy with that find.

I wasn't saying it wasn't a good deal. I was merely pointing out that there are already built up ski's out there in much better shape that don't go for nearly as much as they should.

I mean like you said if this ski was running it would probably bring $1200. Now what about all of the cherry blasters all built up with UMI Steering, Bpipes, etc. that are priced at 2000-2500? They usually don't sell and people complain that the price is too high. They think they should get that cherry built up ski for close to the price they would pay for that stock 94 that's bringing 1200-1500.

The funny thing is most people go buy that stock 94 for $1200 instead of the built up 96 for $2500 and then they figure out a stock blaster is no fun and end up spending well over $2500 to get it where they want.

The same goes for Superjets. Hell I was like that also. When I was looking for a superjet I saw all of these already built ski's for $5000+ and thought they were crazy when I know I could find a good stock ski for around $3500.

Well I did find a great stock ski for around $3500 and was happy with it at first until I realized how many mods I needed to do to the ski. I ended up spending a lot more money and time than I would have if I would have bought an already built ski.

Once again I wasn't debating the fact that he got a good deal. I was merely pointing out that built up boats do not sell for what they should and that's why boats are always being parted out.

How about a Sticky in the "for sale" column by the parts manufacturers, engine, hull builders (run by owners of the site) listing and updating new, oem and am parts prices (specificly SJ and SXI (R) am, oem parts, including hulls, mtrs etc etc preferably easy to read) for a comparison to what is listed new/used for sale.

If the above were workable it would give the newcomer a "ballpark" piece of mind (condition exclusive) in their purchase and possibly introduce a few more enthusiastic participants into the sport.

I think people will continue to charge what people will pay, and we all get the mantalilty that the part that someone is selling is a good deal just because it is used....i bought a b-pipe about a month ago that was in "great shape" paid 550 for it no big deal, when i got it however the "hardware included" turned out to be a bunch of mismatched non grade 8 hardware, that i had to replace, the gaskets where no good, and the coupler needed to be replaced....not to mention that it was not in that great of shape at all....wish i bought it new. ...just today i saw a used head sell for slightly more than i paid for a brand new one with the same domes and everything......it just boggles my mind that people buy the stuff. there's just so much competition for parts here

Yep, the more expensive it is the better it is. I've seen it, got sucked in by it and worn it. In saying that, there are lots of exceptional sellers out there too.

Mile91c (come back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Riverrat and SRJ (I'm sure that there are more) are selling good quality gear at really fair prices. From overseas I'd not hesitate to buy these peoples goods at stated value if it were possible. I'd also take the time and look at where the goods originated from and their history, alot of which in the above cases are recorded. :smokin:

Oh and don't get me started on the prices of used ski's. It's the complete opposite. I see built up ski's rarely go for what they should and then I see bone stock pieces of go for a fair price and everyone thinks it's the deal of the century.

Take this blaster for an example(not calling it a POS by the way):

http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/28021

So the guy picks up a bone stock faded 94 blaster with a 61x that turns over for $700 and people think it's the deal of the century.

The sad thing is I see completely built up 96's for $2000 sit for months.

Let's break it down though:

If I were to try and turn that 94 into some of the built up 96's I would have to do the following:

rant off...

there are WAYYYYY more people around that have 700 extra bucks to burn vs. 2k any day of the week...

the reason 700 is a smoking deal (and it IS)..is for PARTS! I'd take a 700 dollar blaster any day of the week and I dont even ride them

and there will be guys lining up to buy that schwag off of it that I dont need...many times a 700dollar boat will pay for itself

The way I see it is like this.
The market dictates prices and as long as there are people willing to pay, the prices will stay up. What may seam overpriced to you may be a bargain to someone who doesn't know any better.

Than you have times when 2 people are selling the same stuff. Guy #1 set his prices reasonable and sells out in a matter of minutes while guy #2 went for the moon and has to bump his thread over and over.

It's just a matter of knowing the value and waiting. My motor was built from used parts that I got here and I know that I didn't overpay at all.

bingo!

If he gets it running.

Even if he does get it running he still has a lot to do to the ski to be able to have fun with it. Come on Tim you and I both know a stock blaster is about as fun as a Honda.

add a bpipe and call it a day.....ever seen Ewok ride? how about LBE?

both of them ride pretty much 99% stock boats

hell, I ran a stock squarenose with a prop only for almost 2 years and had a BLAST on it

a stock blaster is worth over 1,200.

I've bought ski's I've never planned on fixing up just to resell. I'd be happy with that find.

hell yes brutha!

lets see....700 dollar blaster, and we'll say it has paperwork just for fun:

700 total, you strip it and sell some stuff..before you know it you have 250 or 300 into a motor, pump and electrics

How is that?

The sport grows by having more people ride. I don't see how buying all new parts all the time helps more people get into it.

Sorry, but that makes no sense at all.
It will help the aftermarket parts companies, but that doesn't do squat for pulling new customers in.

I understand what Ant is saying............... how many times you heard that Factory Pipe is out of new B Pipes?? Every year it happens, why, there is not much demand for them so they only have a few built each year......... Now say more people were wanting to buy new pipes, they would produce way more pipes, which would bring in more profit, which in turn might get turned into some new R&D time and guess what, you might see a new design come out that makes more power than a dry pipe but has the reliability of the B pipe............ But as it is now, dont expect that to happen.........
