I ordered some dual stage boyesen reeds. Not sure if they are better performance wise but at least they wont have fun on the way through the engine if they break.

Awesome build! Lots of hard work.

Thanks man, hopefully I work out the bugs with some season left to ride. Thankfully its warm until October here so I should get some fun on it.

I cracked the wet jet carburetor open and everything inside looks to be in great shape. The diaphragm could use replacing but it's been sitting on a shelf for 2 years. I did double check the jetting sizes and it appears to be 150 main and 107.5 pilot which is 10 lower on the pilot than I was expecting. What jetting would you guys start out with? I was leaning toward 120 / 150.

This engine will have mild porting using the yamanube template and will be at an 83 mm bore. I'll be putting my coffman's sizzler and my Ada head on it.

Mine is at 120/150. 2.3 NS, 115gr spring. Runs great 1/4 and up but I still haven’t been able to get it quite perfect. Only issue is snapping wot from a crawling speed or in the trough of a wave sometimes it hesitates, sometimes it won’t. Probably just needs a little out on the low screw but just haven’t set up a day to really tune it in.

Gotcha. Sounds like that is a good starting point. In regards to the break in, would you fatten the screws up a bit extra or how would you go about ensuring it does not run lean off the bat?

Also mine came with a 117.5 pilot which maybe all the wetjets came with and could be yours if it’s hard to read.

I pulled out the magnifying glass and even hit it with some blue permanent marker, it still looked like 107.5 lol. Im sure you are right but no matter how hard I tried to see 117.5 I always saw a zero instead of a one.

Edit. Also my needle and seat look like 1.5 to me. That is a bit low eh?

Every Wet jet 46 I have taken apart has been a 155 main, 117.5 pilot, 1.5 N/S, and a 115 gram spring. Also, here is a link to the parts schematic.

Thanks for that link, that is awesome. Im guessing someone changed the jetting at some point a bit since the main was a 150. Its the kraze manifold and the 46mm carb for sure but not stock jetting it appears.

After some talking with @Quinc I am leaning toward 125/155 with a 2.0 needle and seat, tuning the pop off to the low 20s. If that is a bit fat I can drop the 150 main in but better rich on the break in I think.

I just got the reeds in today and disassembled the cages. The instructions say to omit the Reed stops but that doesn't seem too wise to me. Additionally it says you don't need loctite which also seems pretty stupid. Should I use red or blue loctite? Also is there any merit to omitting the reed stoppers? It seems like it would be a bad idea to me.

The instructions are there for a reason................ I think they may know a bit more than we do. On the loctite, use Blue if your going to use anything. But keep in mind, these are small screws, not M6 bolts. The reeds will collaps/squish when you tighten the screws. This will keep some pressure on screws. But to be safe, a small amount of blue will not hurt......... As far as your jetting goes, you done lean towards this low and this high, with this size need/seat with x popoff. You tune it to what it takes to run right. There is no "Idea" that this jetting will work.......... What may work for one person, may not work for the next. You have to tune it.

I hear you on the reed stops and loctite. If no one hops in here soon and says not running them is a bad idea I will just go off the instructions and run the included hardware. A dab of blue locktite seems like a decent idea but I did not think about the reeds compressing and sort of locking the screw in, that makes sense and makes me feel a bit better about going light on the locktite. And regarding the jetting, I plan on getting an array of jets in the zone that seems to work for most. 120 - 125 pilots and 150-155 mains and start with the rich jets and work my way down.

Thanks for the help!

while I had the reed pedals off I figured I would take some pictures of what is supposed to be so special about this wet jet intake manifold. As you can see the Reed stuffers protrude into the cages and seem to funnel the charge more horizontally. It's also a one piece design.

Its been in the water lol. It has a midrange bog I have been chasing down but I think im getting close. This other motor was always planned so Im plugging away at that too. Unfortunately I have been the only one running things at work for the last month due to an illness so it put a hamper in my summer plans.

Not a thing. I have been running a business by myself for most of the summer without help. Due to medical issues with the other owner my summer was nuked to orbit and it sits in the same condition as last month, just in need of tuning. If it keeps up I wont get to ride it at all before winter but that is life.

Nice to finally see some detailed pics of that manifold. Does the mid range bog feel like it is rich or lean? And does it change at all if you have the screws turned 1/2 turn or 2 turns?
