Question for those of you who've shortened your hull from the outside...

Ooooh okay. Idk if I trust my civic on long trips. 97 with 130k and the past year it's been pounded hard.. Not sure that auto tranny is gonna last too much longer lol.

Well ask your dad for friday and the weekend off, grab your ski and a tent and meet us there, you can come chill with our group for sure, everyone there is quite friendly.

The first group of ours will get there on late Thurs or around 2 on Friday.
Do any of you guys have a beach cart to haul skis down? I'm not bringing a trailer so otherwise I'd need a few spare hands to carry my square Haha

Dude, my 99 crv has 270k on it still going strong!...minus the muffler that fell off last week

I would keep the end caps and use the section you cut out to mold an inner hull support that you can build and let cure first.
Basically, mock up the end cap to the section of hull you cut off and lay your "inner" support there with something to keep the resin form adhering to the section of hull you cut out. When your done you have the end cap with insert reinforcement attached. When your ready prep the inside of the hull, lay down some thickened epoxy, slide the insert in, squish the epoxy out through the joint, reinforce on the outside. That way you have extra support on the inside as well as as much of a chemical bond as you'll be able to get between the inside and outside

So basically the end cap will be bonded to the inside of the hull that way and then bonded even more when reinforced from the outside?

Yup. You can lay up the inside thicker too to you have less finish work on the outside. Think of it as splinting a joint from both sides instead of just one did. Much stronger

I'm still a little confused but I should be able to figure it out. Unless you want to draw a quick picture..

Its not a v6 accord so 130k miles on a honda automatic is nothing. The whole point of owning a old honda is not to worry about it breaking down! And I've seen miata's launching sitdowns, you'll be fine.

Just make sure the converter is staying locked most of the time. Turn off overdrive if you have to work the accelerator very much.

Good news your going to make it! No worries about the shorten... You still have no excuse to not land a back flip :)

If you do shorten it, it may porpoise a bit. I took 5" off mine and it porpoised like a sob. On long distance rides I rode on the hood. But it did flip off of boat wakes! Also put some #0 tubies on it. Also my ride plate was D cut 3.5". If I could, I'd go back and play with ride plate lengths a bit and see what that would do for the porpoising. So chasing boats kinda sucked, but it turned and flipped awesome. Just a lil heavy.

5 inches is definitely a lot! I think part of your issue was that d cut though. Shortening your hull already brings your nose up, and d cutting brings it up even more. My ride plate is d cut right now but once I shorten it I'm going to just cut it flush, no d cut until I see how it rides.
What was your driveline setup?

I forgot I had two ride plates sorry about that. I ran a flush cut plate on it, not D cut. But would have liked to try running a couple slightly longer and tapered. That was a while ago and I've learned a bit since that build.

It had a 62t / 61x 760, limited b pipe, enhancer, #0 flywheel, dual 38's, and other stuff. It was my first ski and build, but it was a lot of fun. I did a build thread on it here some years ago.
