Reinforcing a Square Nose

no. but we had to call 911 for a buddy that got really drunk and then subsequently face planted on concrete. His eyes started rolling up in his head and he was acting strange.

so the ambulance gets there, they check him out. The lead EMT was a girl and she was the one interviewing him and checking him over.

He refused the bus ride - after they left, he says..."I know ya'll ain't gonna believe it - but I got her number!"

"really?"

"yeah - it's 911"

Old thread I know, but nice work! Doin research on reinforcing my square. I love that color! Pretty similar to my blaster. End up doing any graphics or anything?

Thanks!!!!

The graphics kind of got put on hold, started riding it and never really put any on. I'll try and find an updated pic this weekend as I am out of the state for the next few days.

Feel free to ask any questions with regards to reinforcing, I would be glad to help you out. Your blaster looks damn good btw.

Cool thread back from the dead!

How is that paint holding up? And did I read it right that you got a rn pole to work with a sn bracket after a little massaging?

Sorry for the late reply.

The paint is holding up decently, although as I had expected it is pretty scratched up after a couple years of hard use. If I had to do it all over again I would have used about 3x as much clear as I originally did. I'm still happy though given that my $75 paint job still looks pretty good.

As for the RN pole on the modified bracket, yep - it's still going strong! I would like to get a Hazzard bracket at some point.

Now I am building a 62t/61x motor and am debating on whether or not to chop the hull up and do some radical glass work.

Evolution of a superjet.

I posted these pics in the showing off thread but figured I would just keep this thread updated-ish. Ski has since had the hood mod done as well as a newly built 701 and a b-pipe. Also deleted the fuel door.

Thanks!

I know quite a few people have lowered their SN hoods and a few threads are on this site. Might take a bit of searching though.

I was going to lower my hood but then got lazy and just did the slutty hood mod.

Great write up! I cracked my hull today and plan on following this thread next weekend.
Couple Questions:

Any other tips or things you would do differently reinforcing the hull and pole mount?

What kind of paint did you use on the inside of your hull and how is it holding up against the spilled gas and oil etc?

What kind of paint did you use on your engine? I might as well paint it too while I have it out. :)

Tip wise for reinforcing: Cover your body in baby powder while you sand, the baby powder keeps the fiberglass from getting stuck in your pores and making you itch. Also, wear a respirator or at the very least a dust mask when sanding. Other than that, I've since reinforced more skis than i can remember (helping friends etc). This is still the basic method. Just remember, your glass job will only be as good as your prep... prep should take 90% of the time on this project.

I can't remember the brand of paint at the moment, I know it was called "Bilgekote". If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't paint the inside of the hull. It flakes off and gets stained and in my opinion, the bare glass just looks cleaner.

I painted my engine with VHT engine paint, the color was "burnt copper". It has held up okay, but don't get carb cleaner on it!

Good luck with your project, I'm always glad to answer questions and help others out!

More questions. How many yards of Fiberglass should I get to reinforce the inside of the hull and pole bracket?

3yds of biax is enough for one ski, and I'd recommend getting an extra 2 yds of 8 oz twill for little stuff. A gallon of resin is more than enough. Get it from uscomposites.com

All the glass has been holding up great, no delamination anywhere. Just make sure you sand where you will be glassing with 80 grit to get a good roughed up texture to bond to, then blow it clean and wipe with acetone to remove any oil or residue. Also, as long as you are using epoxy resin you shouldn't have any bonding problems.

Almost done with my reinforcement and wondering what you did/used for the ties that go along the top of the engine bay where your exhaust and fuel lines etc run?

I re-riveted in the stock zip tie brackets and just zip tied to them.
