RICKTER talk

Any tips for mounting my TL in my new Edge. I plan to run 2 tanks at some point so I'm not mounting on the firewall. I am planning on mounting the brain, relay, and shifty mod on a plate and the coils on another plate. I was going to use 2 ufo mounts to mount each plate then use appropriate bolts to hold the plates to the hull. I know I am about the only person mounting on 2 plates. I feel it doesn't take much more time and should prolong the life of the brain. MSD now says the coils "must be at least 12 inches from the brain". After talking with people the longer they have been running TL the shorter that distance is. I think MSD has increased it over the years and if they did they probably have a good reason to.

My 2 questions are:
What is your mounting location advice?

Is there a better mounting method than ufo inserts?

how do you like the ez drain? what type of glue do you use for the ring to the hull? Glue just seems like a bad idea to me

1) I haven't taken my ski out to check performance of the drain. Installation is less than ideal (see previous posts concerning the orientation of the Edge scupper tube causing the ring to not sit flush against hull).

2) I used plexus. This is also what Rickter used to adhere their initial drain. It was very difficult to remove with a hammer and screwdriver as a pry bar. Furthermore, plexus is used to bond top decks to bottom decks for many hulls; in summation, I think it's strong enough to bond the drain flange to the hull.

I would imagine the concern is... if the cage/grate (I'm not sure what it's called) ever came off your hull, the ball would fall out allowing water in. I'd want to make sure it's there for good.

That concern is legitimate. The force which it took to remove the "stock" rickter scupper leads me to believe that the likelihood of it just falling off is miniscule and certainly less than a rubber scupper. Plexus (and epoxy for that matter) is used for much more demanding applications and performs admirably.

Knock on wood that mine never fails!

Doesn't Thrust now sell the ball drain made specifically for Rickters? Not sure if it's made for the angle of the Edge but they do have 1 that says "made for Rickters". Just curious since I am considering an Edge when the funds allow it.

Putting together my rickter edge. I am getting ready to install my pump. I read on here that rickter's use shorter bolts for the pump than a superjet. Can anyone share some knowledge on what length? Thanks

So standard length is 25mm. I'd buy some 20mm M8 bolts. That should do the trick. I got some from Jetmaniac and they seemed to be about 20mm, but I didn't measure them.
