I have been riding since before Wetbikes were around. 51yo
My kids were riding since 7-8, we would let them idle around in the tray.
My 10yo niece stands up in the tray while idling
My 7yo granddaughter rides in the tray with me
Of course, these are all under very controlled circumstances

Trying to perpetuate the sport by introducing the the younger generation

closing on 23 my ski was a 20th birthday present to myself after getting hooked riding a friends in high school.

Just couldn't convince my dad to buy something he wouldn't ride even though he upgraded to an RXP instead. He doesn't ride that either and he just complains when my friends ride it.

Glad to hear that its possible to stay in the sports for quite a few more years, and i would definitely say that funding is a major problem for kids still in school that don't have help from their parents. Soon I will be out and making enough that i need to be careful and not let the addiction get the best of me.

Took a minute to dig up but heres a thread i started a while back. The mods made it to where you had to view the thread so id imagine its the most accurate representation for X members atleast

Edit: JESUS! I didnt realize almost 600 people voted untill just now... So yeah, id say thats a good idea of how old the average riders are.
And FYI ive since moved up to the 20-24 bracket :) 21 in august !

38 here....started with couches at 25, saw a few standups here and there but I was not impressed by the riders. Fast forward to 2006, my Buddy gets a standup and the minute I rode it I was hooked and Bad. I went out and bought my own (3 of them!) and I ride every week. THEN I found the surf....and it was all over. Hooked for life.
For me it is the most exhilarating, adrenaline pack, wet rush, thrill ride I could ever ask for. Give the guy that invented the first Jet ski the Nobel Price because He deserves it. It takes longer for me to recuperate from each ride nowadays, especially when I ride the surf, but I hope to be doing it until I died.

As someone once said:

l think Augustaf and Crab are older than me(LOL),but l'm 53.l started riding in 1980 and proud to say on an old 440.My wife used to ride a kawi 650 until she blew her knees out.We finally bought a couch a couple of years ago,so she could still ride.l ride with a 63 year old dude that will put most 20 year olds to shame. And like eveyone else on this thread, people still ask "what is that your riding? They still make them?"

Well, I kind of relate the stand up experience more along the lines of dirt bikes and motor cross/freestyle. For years people have hated on that sport. If the sport was bigger, we would have more affordable parts, more options...... Polaris would still make the octane. You would have the ability to buy a superjet with a 701 or a 989 in it.

I like the underground status too but, you show me someone that enjoys riding jet skis (couches or not) that takes the time to ride a stand up and doesnt enjoy the hell out of it. I guess we are lucky kawi and yamaha are still providing the platforms. Otherwise we would always be doing rebuilds or simply wouldnt have the money for an aftermarket hull.....most of us anyway.

I rode an old 550 about 15 years ago and then spent a bunch of time on my buddies 94 sxi and never cared to ever ride anything else. Now I just hate heading out and only see couches being F-ing idiots zooming around me trying to be cool

31....I got into standups because of a few persistent individuals on PWCToday back in the day that told me to "Get a Superjet". I don't see an end in sight for me.
