I cant even think of words to describe how beautiful that engine is. I always thought it would be hilarious to drop a set up like that in a bone stock looking SN and tell people that have ridden it when it was stock to take it for a ride. lol.

pump mock up / pump shoe glue time.

the best part - ZERO grinding on the bolt holes that mount the pump. this was a nightmare spot on the last freak.

also the size of the "thru-tube" from the bulk head to the pump tunnel has been enlarged. the mid shaft housing shaft no longer rubs.

used west systems slow cure epoxy w/ 404 filler. added teal pigment "just for fun". wish i had black to use (or that i would have glued it in before paint)... all well.

hope to have it flipped back over for some good progress this evening.

this color is crazy. pics do not do it justice.

thanks for the compliments everyone.

forgot the camera at home this morning, otherwise i would post up pics.

last night i got the following done: handle pole bracket / tubes, hood straps, motor mounts, exhaust chamber mount, gas tank, tray sanded for turf (thanks Bobby!)

this will be my first year running a waterbox with the powerfactor pipe (finally) so i was not sure how i was going to plumb everything and why i stayed up so late to get everything in the engine bay mocked up. overnighted a 45 degree 2.5" coupler with 10" long legs that should take care of the waterbox to thru-hull tube. also ordered matching new chamber to waterbox and manifold to chamber couplers (all gloss black). should all be here tomorrow.

the motor mounts are what took the most amount of time... i tried "couch" motor mounts, and even spaced all the way apart on both sides of the hull, the motor sat to high and would not line up right. the ONLY way these would work, is if i drilled the holes on the intermediate housing bigger and moved it up, but this would have put the driveshaft on an angle. this is doable, but something would have to be done in the pump area so the pump would stay "angled" when torqued down. i opted to Superjet motor mounts (OEM). this is what X Scream recommends anyway as the urethane is harder overall. the problem with them though, is on riders left, the rear of the motor / motor bedplate hits the hull. i had to shim the back left corner at the mount... only way this was going to happen (i can barely get a stacker of paper through between the motor bedplate and hull). plenty of room though in the front between the motor bottom of the hull like discussed about in previous threads. the motor will probably hit / rub on landings and what not, but is what it is... we'll see how things are looking after the first ride / shakedown.

tonight, we are turfing the tray. also everything minus the handle pole setup will be removed again. then all bolts / mounts loctited and secured, turf glued down where motor might possibly hit, turf glued down where gas tank sits, and underpadding glued down where the waterbox will sit. once tray is done, put the ratchet strap on, install hood seal and crank down the hood to let setup overnight.

i am hoping to have it buttoned up Friday, and depending on time, maiden voyage late Friday evening, or Saturday sometime.

i want to leave the motor out / unfinished until the pump is done, which i cannot wrap up until Friday as i am waiting on a spacer to run between the impeller and pump per X Scream's guidance. so pump in. hull flipped over and motor buttoned up.

brad - regarding paint, check your txt(s).

joe - hell yes, i'd love to see them side by side.

the progress continues... been killing myself after work staying up until 3am wrenching.

turf = done. big thanks to Bobby Clouse for helping out on this. overall it turned out decent for a couple of amateurs... 26mm top and bottom of footholds. should stay in there nice and good (and comfy!).

water and fuel lines done. water lines on this thing look like a mad scientist setup. cooling is reversed on these motors... there are two .5" lines in from the pump.

  • one goes directly to the head of the motor
  • one is split (.5" and 0.375"). one goes to the top of the head, the other to the exhaust chamber.
  • two .5" lines out from the exhaust manifold to pissers overboard
  • two .375" lines from the cylinder to the pissers overboard
  • one line from the stinger end of the chamber, up through the handle pole for hand warmers

tonight i need to make a carbon battery box that i plan to mount (glue/epoxy down) underneath the exhaust tube.

right now everything is in there loose for test fitting. it all comes back out tonight.

finally assembly will be tomorrow evening. then hopefully water test Saturday. i was hoping for Friday but i am 1 day behind on the battery box.
