Super Jet Roundie refurbishing on the cheap

wow thats alot of water, makes me definately want to refoam while i have mine torn down now. Is there a reason you shortened the hull with a straight cut opposed to an angled cut?

I had a few reasons, but everybody to their own.
My reasons were
1. I thought it would be overall easier in the long run to do. Glassing, shaping etc.
2. I can keep my scupper, or a rear ex (If I ever choose to install one off the back) easier off a square surface.
3. I think it will ride better if it's square... This is just my opinion on hydraulics (and I am far from a brain surgeon) I think it will be a more consistent ride and not have any tendencies to have the angle of the cut, pull the back of the hull down into the water at slower speeds. It may sound silly, but that's my thought on it.

Good point i can see where your comming from, and also keeping the exhaust comming straight out the back would be easier

What kind of glass cloth did you use? and how many layers did you put on it

All I had was 6oz cheap stuff. Put on 4 layers of that from the outside, but after feeling it from the inside with foam removed i want it to be a bit more. Not sure what I am going to use to reinforce the inside with, or rebuild the tray with yet. But I definitely want to go thicker. I'm going to be looking for some advice on that question too. Among others lol! Should be good fun.

Also thinking of going foamless. I mainly ride flat (99.9%) and am (normally) close to the ski when I eat it. I have some thoughts on how to keep it ridged and not use foam. Just thoughts now lol!

Question: What do you have to lose by going with polystyrene foam vs no foam?

Well... That's one question I have too. Does it absorb water at all? I don't know yet on that. Defoaming sucks so bad, I don't want to do it again lol! Even if I get another hull in the next year or so, my son will get this and I want it to be solid. I was just thinking that if I seal it up half way descent (basically do my best to do a really good job) how much water can it take on in what amt of time? Unless I crack the hull, then im effed. I'm just trying to improve on it, but want to do what will work the best.

I don't think you've removed enough hull yet.

I'm scared to ask lol! Is that sarcasm, or are you serious? Giggling as I type. I totally appreciate all your info though, so let it fly.

edit. My tray was in super bad shape. Delaminated and lots of extra glass work over the top. So I will be looking at replacement options too. Bring on the fun!

I forgot!
looks great, i have to agree about not using a pour in foam. No foam or DOW foam. i semi DOW foam. haha. have you been having trouble with your front seal and bearing and flywheel? i had a inbalanced RAD wheel that would take out my front bearing and seal very quickly. then make a mess under the flywheel cover which leads to bendix jamming and spinning at 7500rpms etc etc. what is that 0 flywheel?

Thanks for the props. The stock flywheel came loose in 09 and the #0 in 2010. I think the crank may be bent, but not sure. Everything behind the front cover is lightly lubricated and grey lol. I think I am going to rule it all out and do new cases, crank, flywheel, starter, bendix. New to me that is lol!

And the cut rail caps combined weight is a whopping 2.4 lbs on a digital fish weighing scale. The weight loss was a bonus, but I wanted to lower the rails, so I don't rub my legs on them as much. Or (doubtful) bend my leg over them when I eat it. So it was more of a comfort mod than anything.

What's DOW foam?

l don't think l have seen a cleaner job taking out the foam Jay! nice!

l used the pink poly in my stunt hole build.Worked great.l added drain holes in the rear end caps,so l could drain every now and then.Don't know if it really made a difference, but l left an open channel in the very bottom of both sides,so if water did get it in at least the foam would not be laying in it.

I had open channels in the bottom, too + drain plugs.
Good thing, because I got 32 fl.oz of water out after ever ride.

You might consider using small versi-plugs instead of drain plugs. I didn't like the idea of that much water in the back (weight). The versi-plugs would continually drain during riding.
