Since I installed my 4MP PTZ camera in back of the house this time, I had to order another one for the driveway. They now offer the same camera, (RLC-423), in a 5MP version so that is what I got.

The picture quality is marginally better but the real gain is in the field of view.

The original view is 2560x1440

And here is the improved view at 3072x1728

Personally I wish the 4x zoom would have been more like 20 but it's good enough to creep on the mail lady mishandling my package...

The night vision is greatly enhanced as well and it looks like there is a yard light shining on my truck.

Is the camera worth the money they are asking for it? Debating on putting this setup in front of my garage

Debating the RLC-423 PTZ?

I think so and now I want to replace the 4MP with another 5.

Tell you what, I’ll sell you my 4MP PTZ for $125 shipped if you think it will work but don’t want to pony up for the full amount.

Thank you for that but just didn't know if there was enough of a difference. Wife was studying for a test earlier and I already pulled the trigger after seeing your screenshots earlier and reading the reviews.

Update? Did you get the new one yet?

Amazon "lost" my package since GPS takes drivers out into the middle of a field by my house even though I have called in and complained a handful of times. They refunded my money and I procrastinated about reordering the camera and it jumped up 50 dollars. I still need to run electric to the garage/ethernet cable and we just had a baby shower for my wife at our house on Sunday so the garage has been on the back burner.

It looks like they finally dropped the 4MP version as well. I wonder when they will upgrade their bullet cameras to 5MP or better yet, 4K UHD like the Lorex.

I have a swann w/ 1TB hard drive, I love it. 720 resolution, night vision cameras and motion sensor activated recording. Running the wires sucks but in my opinion it’s worth it. Any source of an arc will knock out wireless cameras. I think smart criminals know this. It’s great watching the pissed off ups guy deliver my Chewy dog food order. Does anyone use their system for time lapse recording?

They are about to start building the house across the street and I would love to figure out how to capture the whole process on a 3-4 minute video.

It would be easy, just set the sensitivity low and any time someone moves it will record them. I tried to aim my cameras where they wouldn’t record over my property limits. Mainly in an effort to not violate their privacy.

They work too slow here in the South for that! ;)

I had mine aimed discretely originally but after repeated requests for footage from my neighbors, they all got turned up and a few more added for even more coverage. I was actually surprised at how little conflict my cameras caused. I expected at least one neighbor to freak right out about them but it never happened in either neighborhood.

At the new location, I have houses close by on two sides so I used the privacy feature to black out the windows. Both neighbors said it was unnecessary but they appreciated that I respected their privacy.

In the meantime, we have been having a blast with all the wildlife in the pond out back and have been using the 5MP PTZ to capture as much as we can. From feeding the little fingerling fishes, watching a Crane swoop in and clean them out to a momma and baby turtle playing tag together. There has been a Doe and fawn in the area as well but the grass is too tall to get any really good footage of them.

Really wishing the PTZ had more than a 4x zoom though.

Things you can’t unsee...

Like seriously!

And now you're in our home, installing new cabinets and you’ve never washed your hands!

The funny and awkward part is that my wife watched it live on her monitor and then had to be in the house and interact with the guy for the rest of the day.

Her first reaction was to send the guy away but after so many delays, she opted to just endure him and get the job completed.

I ended up working from home after lunch and had to help him hang a couple cabinets so I got to meet and interact with him as well.

We both had a good laugh when I showed my wife the screenshot and told her I shared it around work and on the forum.

She had to walk away when I asked the guy how well the cabinet finish would stand up to bleach. Why would you need to bleach cabinets he asked? “Sometimes you just need to bleach everything”, was my response.

I never had the heart to embarrass the guy to his face but I do wonder if at any point he noticed all the cameras and felt a little shame at least.

Anyways, it’s been worth more than a few laughs and given us a hilarious story to tell.

And he did fantastic work! The cabinets look great!
