OCD, I need 10 cameras (I want to put one about a 1,000 feet away as a game camera...) So what do you think about the Reolink 16-camera NVR system. It is half the price of the 16-camera system at Costco.

https://reolink.com/product/rlk16-410b8/

Also I will view them primarily via Windows 10 PC's. Any issues with the software for PC's?

P.S. I will be selling three Nest Indoor cameras soon...

1000ft will be a challenge on any IP system as the max distance you can run Ethernet cable is around 325ft. You would need to go wireless and/or add a switch, (or two), in there somewhere to extend the signal.

I bought a couple of the Argus cameras with solar panels to test out on my parents property. They should be perfect as a game cam so I will let you know the result if they ever get them set up. I bet they sit in the box until my next trip up to see them. :)

I see no issues with Win10, win 7, XP or Mac. Their software is pretty solid on all platforms.

That’s certainly a budget friendly system but it’s a far cry from the Lorex system I was tempted by.

A few weeks back I got in on the Reolink deal for a pair of the Argus 2 with a lithium battery pack and solar panel for half price.

I ordered the max of two and sent them off to my parents as they have been having a rash of thefts in their neighborhood.

After nearly a week of messing with them, my mother finally called my nephew down and he got them set up in under 5 minutes.

So far I am really liking them. I am currently 4200 miles away but am connected and able to manage both the devices remotely.

They played around with the WiFi range and found decent spots for both. They will have to install some sort of repeater to get the one camera up by their gate but it’s something they need to do to get proper coverage up to Dad’s shop anyways.

So, these are the Argus 2, wireless WiFi cameras with the additional solar panels to keep them charged up at all times.

Really not bad for $100/each.

I had a Mallard duck that decided to nest in my front walkway area last week. Walked out of the house and scared the crap out of my dog and I. I scared her Friday morning before she could lay anything and then Saturday am around 7:45 she scared me again but had laid 4 eggs. Woke up Sunday morning to find only one egg and none on Monday morning. Went to the camera to find this: (Ignore the incorrect time, I'm an idiot and set it for PM instead of AM after daylight savings time)D4A689E9-73B8-4B34-891C-D8A646C7FE45.png

These are cheap but useful: https://www.wyzecam.com/product/wyze-cam-v2/

I bought 2 for $40 delivered when they were on sale. I think they are about $26 ea delivered now. The free cloud storage of the 12sec motion clips for 14 days is a nice feature. I added a 32gb card to each for continuous recording. Each camera has two-way audio capability via the app too.

MM: This is a deal killer for me:

"Wyze Cam does not have a PC version of the app, and we do not have any plans to release one at this time."

I still use a Casio Boulder G'Zone and use a laptop for looking at my Nest cams. Looking at a smart phone to monitor a cam at a remote location is not sufficient for me.

Do you know of any third party app which would allow the Wyze to work with a laptop.

Yes, I sent a trouble ticket to Wyze support and asked the same question and am awaiting a response.

The Wyze cam seems like a great alternative to the Nest cam. And a good stand in until I can afford the Hicvision setup I would really prefer...

I was initially disappointed there was no PC viewing SW too, my other cameras can be viewed in any web browser. In the reviews some people mention running an Android emulator. After playing with the camera for about a week not having a PC app hasn't been that big of a deal for me since I always have my phone with me. The app itself has some neat features like sharing the camera with other users. Send me a PM with your email and I'll share the camera watching the dog door in my basement to you (or anyone else interested.)

Wyze Cam v2
Qty:
1
Price: $19.99
Subtotal: $19.99
Shipping: $5.99 via Ground Shipping (4-7 BusinessDays
Total: $25.98

Plus 14 day free cloud storage. Plus the fact that you can put an SD card in the camera itself.

Ordered one last night. It is worth a try for $25.98
For that price you can blanket the scene with face level cameras as well as overhead.
Thanks Mike!

Here's a discussion using TinyCamPro and a few other web browsers to view Wyzecam on your laptop/pc:

https://www.wyzecam.com/forums/topic/need-a-web-browser-interface/

And this is dedicated to jyst TinyCamPro and Wyzecam:

https://www.wyzecam.com/forums/topic/how-to-setup-tinycam-with-wyze-cam/

BTW, I assume because my computers are older, I have never been able to get Bluestacks, Andyroid or any other android emulator to work on my computers without freezing. I am hoping that TinyCamPro which appears to be more stripped down will do the trick with Wyzecam.

I wasted so much time on PC based systems before I just bit the bullet and bought a dedicated IP system.

I got 10 out of 14 cameras installed at the new house yesterday.

This was the first time I was in a bigger hurry to get the rear cameras up than the front. :)

Do you Run the Ethernet cable for the reolink in your soffits to one main location where you have the receiver? Going to start installing my reolink system shortly

I did on the backside of the house just because of the layout of my truss package. I was able to pull 5 wires in one shot and then branch out and pick up each camera in the soffit.
I'm down to a single roll of wire now though it's solo runs for the last 4 cameras.

I got home early so I was able to get the last 3 outside cameras run and connected.

I installed my PTZ camera out back so I can watch wildlife on the pond so I ordered another PTZ for the front of the house.

The new PTZ will be the updated 5MP model with an even wider field of view than the first which should be much better for an overall view of the street.

Caught these immigrants swimming out behind our house this morning....It's pretty sweet to be able to follow them around with the PTZ camera.

Since I installed my 4MP PTZ camera in back of the house this time, I had to order another one for the driveway. They now offer the same camera, (RLC-423), in a 5MP version so that is what I got.

The picture quality is marginally better but the real gain is in the field of view.

The original view is 2560x1440

And here is the improved view at 3072x1728

Personally I wish the 4x zoom would have been more like 20 but it's good enough to creep on the mail lady mishandling my package...

The night vision is greatly enhanced as well and it looks like there is a yard light shining on my truck.
