Proactive wrist pin bearing replacement revealed something I did not want to find. Something small went thought the rear cylinder. Who the hell knows when this happened, ski still ran strong up until the point of disassembly. Everything inside the motor looked 100%, crank and wrist pins/bearings all looked fine. No damage from the object to anything in the bottomend of the motor. We wetsanded the piston and dome to remove high spots, and will reassemble it tomorrow with new gaskets and cageless wrist pin bearings. This has to last till Daytona in Jan. Then I will be giving the motor a total overhaul, new crank, topend, overbore, ect. Sucks but could def have been worse I guess.

Good thing you tore it down. My next one will be torn down at much shorter intervals this time around.

Ya I am debating if this warrents a new top end or not. Hate to cut into the ride season more then I have to, but would also hate for it to grenade because I cheaped out. UGH...This crap is too expensive, I need a cheaper hobby.

I hear ya. Been riding my 61X/61X cheapo VXR pro motor with a b pipe and ADA head in my fixed steer. Its a slug compared to the 865. At least I'm still riding though.

Time for a backup motor so you don't have any lost ride time!!!

Glad to see it back together...Did you ever find out what went through it?

Nope. We checked everything and cant find any signs of what it was. There were a few tiny daytona sand pebbles in the bottom of the hull? Who knows. Reeds, case epoxy, crank, wristpins.....all looked perfect.

Id speak to Chucky on the width though, they are much narrower. I dont have the number here but if I had to guess I say the Wisecos are 27.8 mm and the Sea doo ones are 24mm total. Sliding around in that big piston may cause some funky loading.

All back together and I been riding ALOT! The backfires I was having last year have not happened at all since the tear down. Not sure whats up with that, but no complaints there. Motor is ripping harder then ever, but I have been nicer to it then last year and not holding it WOT for more then 5secs or so. 8th tank of gas went into the ski yesterday, and now I am going to start the weeknight/afterwork rides again. Making up for lost season time.

First test ride after complete rebuild. June 23rd. Total success, broke in motor nice for 10mins then no WOT for one full tank. Test ride behind my house.

Had an amazing time this past weekend in the surf, in Brigantine with the FX Mafia. Van "condo" setup on the beach.
