Rode the ski for 6days in Florida and after that trip it need some TLC. The 86mm bored reduction nozzle just completely exploded. I put a stocker on to get threw the trip but it robbed a TON of bottomend. Today swapped on an 85.5mm reduction nozzle. Hopefully the .5mm of added material helps. Also the RRP steering was not assembled correctly (missing a washer), this allowed salt water to get into the bearings. Eventually the salt and sand mix destroyed the bearings and the steering got too sloppy to deal with. Installed a rebuild kit correctly and now it feel amazing like its brand new. Surprised how easy and fast it is to rebuild the RRP steering and only $20 some dollars for the full rebuild kit. Flushed the motor, gave the ski a wash, changed the plugs just for the hell of it, and cleaned the motor bay up nice.

Ready to ride tomorrow! Hopefully the weather holds out long enough to get and hour or so in.

Took it for a quick test before the thunder came in. I cannot believe how much of a difference a reduction nozzle bore makes....its really amazing. 85.5mm I can tell a big difference over 86mm. The 85.5 has a very tiny loss off the very bottom over the 86, but an easy +10%-15% gain all throughout the MID. The boat had a much stronger arm yanking pull once it gets on the pipe with the 85.5mm. Really stoked on the powerband now! Really worth the time to experiment with the pump setup the difference was night and day. (Or I could have listened to XS and ran the 85.5 day one, like they told me.) Hoping one day this weekend to put some solid time on it, but all in all the mid season 3hour TLC and tuneup was a success.

Yea its amazing how a tiny .5mm change on a nozzle ,cone length or slight pitch change can dramatically alter the way a ski runs. I am always surprised to see people just figure things are good enough without experimenting one way or the other to find the sweet spot.

Dude I would NEVER have thought 0.5mm on the nozzle would make such a big difference. It was good with the 86mm but its nutty with the 85.5. Going riding today after work. Cant wait to play around.

Back when I tuned my mag pump, I tried a few different sizes. There was a tremendous difference between a bored 84mm nozzle and an 82.6mm nozzle.
The 84 had very slightly better bottom, but the gains on the 82.6 were huge all around. Better hit everywhere (except off idle) and much more top speed.
If that taught me anything, it's that you really should take the time to dial in your setup.

We need to invent, "dial a brap nozzle", just turn the outer ring to adjust exit bore...

My end of the summer party is the Sunday of labor day weekend. Comes equipped with tons of beer and an ice luge for shots.

Ski ran like a top in Daytona. The 865 was fogged when I got down there, and didnt even change the plugs after burning off the fogging oil. Put 31 gallons thru it in Daytona with zero hicups. Only incident was my fault... where I smashed the steering nozzle and reduction nozzle on a sandbar. Luckily I had replacements with me. I spent last Saturday of the freeride winterizing it really good for the remainder of the offseason. Ordered a new throttle cable (just wore the old one out)and replacement reduction to refill my spare inventory.

Trying to think how I can plan a long weekend in a month or two, to go somewhere warm and ride some waves. Daytona withdrawl is killing me. Debating where... Myrtle Beach maybe?

I dont think I can last till Wave Daze, April 27th is a LONG way away...lol.

Myrtle Beach is only a 10-11hour ride, water was 60F when we went in early March 2007. Air was in the 70's, and surf was really good too. Also there is something about drinking beers while having campfire and listening to the waves at night, EPIC!!! I cant get a week off work for awhile.... but thinking maybe a strike mission, leaving on a Weds night, ride Thurs-Fri-Sat, and drive back Sunday.

Its either a surf riding trip or a dirtbike trip to Hatfield McCoy....going to figure it out soon. :burnout:

Myrtle Beach surf trip 3-2007. Our oceanfront campsite.
