I don't understand, the motor looks fine other than some paint worn off bottom bolts, which you will never see. Give him a break and at least check motor. PayPal gives you forever to file a claim.
I suppose I've been wanting to get some leak down blockage plates eventually, just wish it wasn't under this scenario and my pocket book.

You should check a used engine regardless, especially if you're intending to run it as-is without rebuilding. BUT, it still sucks that you have to do it because of the shipping condition.

This thread is almost as polarized as politics or which oil and ratio you should run. Be glad you didn't ask one of those. :D

Doubt PayPal does anything. You received the item and are keeping it. They will ask you to return it if you want a refund. Which is the right thing to do imo if you want anything back

I sold a set of cases on here years back. Told dude about an. Sent him pics. Even shipped them overseas for him. He got them and didn't like the way the bearings wore the case. I told him fine. Send it back and I'll give all his money back. This dude didn't want to and threatened me with calling me out online. Told me he wouldn't even run the cases but it would be too much trouble to ship back. So I just gave him his money back and ate the whole deal. I barely sell anything anyone because of that situation.

I say cut the guy a break. If you don't want to cut him a break, send the engine back as is and ask paypal for a full refund. If you run that engine after all this, id have to say it's a pretty chump thing to do.

I was told the fault lies completely on FedEx for the handling. I could not disagree more.

I shipped a Kawi 650 pump many years back. One of the shoe ears was broken off during shipping. I complained to shipping and the answer I got was "It's your responsibility to ensure it's safe for a drop up to 10ft". They argued they can not prevent things from falling off the top shelf of their trucks. I was appalled. I learned my lesson after that. The shipping company is concerned with the speed they move your package, not the condition it is in when it arrives.

Motor should have been inside a garbage bag with spray foam all around it........ Or some other form of foam packed all around it.

What a great idea. We've only shipped one motor and my buddy built a baller box for it. I can't believe people aren't passing it around to keep shipping motors. The motor mounts bolted to the box, handles built in, made from 1/2 plywood and reinforced at the seems with those 1" triangle planks.

A trash bag, some foam and a tote would have been way less work.
