i have to jump in and say, this is a very informative thread!! thanks fellas. .

I also agree it's a very informative thread but I'm flip flopping more than a John Kerry over here .

One day it's single the next it's keep my doubles, then single ,then double :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

agreed. but i think duals come out slightly better if you were to list pros/cons for any riding (when dialed in) the only reason i would stay single was if i kept good power band and fuel consumption, but properly tuned duals will consume relatively the same + the added response of duals. so i think duals win...so somebody sell me some:Banane01:

By added response of duals I assume you are referring to throttle response? Singles have better throttle response than duals, that is part of the advantage.

Single carb= better throttle response, no way to deny that.

Single carb *can* lean out on big hp engines so you can't let newbs ride your ski in case they want to run wot.

I disagree based upon riding skis w/ both setups... duals have always been more powerful...

I fell for that single carb BS a while back...

single carb - less chance of water intrusion, easy to install/remove and meter... will tune up to hit hard on the low. not made for high hp ski, but can be made to work at low rpms... not the optimum choice

dual carbs - more difficult to install/remove and meter.. will provide sufficient power in all ranges of the powerband. more chance of water intrusion, higher cost. overall these things amke it a better solution for a ported/high hp motor

don't believe the single hype... I was there at O-Side and spoke to Mark for quite a long time about his ski.... at no time did he state his ski runs better w/ a single than duals... he runs a single because he travels a lot and it's easier to deal w/ since he doesn't have a mechanic on the road.

I bet if an engine builder was reading this thread he would laugh...

I have never said singles make better power, I have stated that I prefer them because they are way easier to take on/off and tune. I like the low end power and throttle response, digest less water, and engine compartment is cleaner. I know you can't run WOT all day long, but I do 10-20 second wot runs all of the time with no problem. I also ride with a guy who has a ported stroker with a single powerbomb, he has had no problems. If I rode other places then the surf I probobally wouldn't have one.The key is knowing how to set up single carbs. Saying that I am not the one who set mine up, so I can only give advice on what I observed while testing my ski.

ok so we are debating "throttle response" only...
I still think duals will respond better or just as well. also, will give you more usable power through the powerband...

my single responded good, but if there is not as much fuel and air behind the reponce it won't create as much power, reponse is only a part of it IMO.

HANGTIME... I have a perfect condition 44mm sbn setup for a 61x that i will trade you for your dual 38 setup in their current condition if you're interested. It is already tuned to a 701 with 160psi and a factory mod pipe.

I actually ended up keeping my stock twin 38's and I'm glad I did.
I sent them to LPW for a rebuild and tune and they have been awesome since then .
I don't think I would ever go to a single unless I bought a boat that was already set up that way .
Doubles rule and I can take my carbs off in 10 minutes

Here is my take-

1 carb per cylinder=that 1 carb working 1/2 the time, right?
1 carb for both cylinders=that 1 carb work all the time, right?

I have now ridden 2 big bore strokers that both make me say wow,

1st a 6 mil w/2 Blackjacks
2nd a 5 mil w/1 Novi

I do agree that w/2 you have fuel for 'reserve' for WOT conditions, however, I think for a STRICT freestyle application that 1 is all you need.

I just recently sold THE setup that everyone desires to prove or dis-prove my theory and bought a single Novi setup. It took me about an hour to get it doing the same thing both Full Specs did. I am running bad rich and after rejetting tomorrow I think/hope I will be able to find all the power my motor has to offer w/the single carb setup. NOTE, I as well as several people that would know what is good or bad thought I had the Full Specs on the money as far as jetting/performance goes.

I will report back tomorrow night after some more jetting/testing.

I welcome input, opinions, idea's both positive and negative as long as we can keep the BS out of this thread.

How did I know it. Someone would just have to come in and start some sh it. I try to have a intelectual conversation about a long debated topic here on the X and it aint gonna happen.
