brraap....thats so 2002
look at www.motonews.com, mototalk is a member only board and their going like gang busters, but they also do alot of advertising and im sure its a "for profit" forum, so that might end up turning your hobby into a buisness

Keep the upload feature, and ask for donations. I hate having to go to hosting sites.

Many of us donated to PWCToday back in the day, and would do if for the X.

$15-25 per year is only one tank of gas.

Although this site is non-profit, it still take $$$ to run it, and any extra proceeds can go toward food/drink/giveaways/advertising etc at the freerides.:Banane01: :cheer: :Banane01: :cheer:

Darin,
Can we all pitch in and get up grades or something. I keep seeing things get taken out. Chat, whos online, viewing things. I know its hard, I just think the site should grow.. I can raise money quickly and I want our site to grow not get cut on things... I mean the best with this post.... I will do whatever nessecary... Give a call if needs be.

Its like we are getting bigger and more people and we have to cut things because of that... as we grow bigger lets do more things and bring all that stuff back... Let me know.. I have $$ right now for the site !

Dedicated is probably where we need to be, which means ~$200/month. That's a lot of money. $12/year from all active users would cover it plus provide money for events. That would allow us to bring back all the cool features plus add new ones.

I would like to start a post and get a donation started... Is that ok Admins ? I am also going to ask Ross and Jerry, we were going to Donate the Double Barrel Fund.... I think we found were to do it !

that will be first months and then some... then we can start donations. If we move to the big surver and nobody pitches in for next months. I will personally Pay Half ! Cool ?

Darin,

Make it optional and see where it lands. I would never had paid Rob and Bobby in the beginning if it was required, I probably would have wound up on some other site.

Once I found out how valuable the site was, I gladly paid a donation.

Set up a paypal account, and let's get some speed going!

Maybe an easier option would be for some of the companies to step up with advertising $$. We'd only need 6-7 more to cover the hosting completely.

One other thing, the reason I'm being so open about this is because it's not "my site" or Paul's or Harrison's, we just keep it pointed in the right direction (we hope). It's the users' site so everyone needs to know what's going on and help make decisions when needed just like what happens with the freerides.

Lets mass email the user list and ask opinions. Lots of peeps probly miss the thread. All in all, I appreciate what you guys do and I am in to keep this site with some Bling factor not cut factor.... :Banane01:

How many users are on this site that have more than like 50 posts?

I was going through the registered user list, and there are 600+ users but alot of them have never posted.

There you go bro... do a pay per post... LOL... seriously... charge like a penney a post, and at the end of each month charge the users CC for the posts... Also, posts that have attachments could cost like $.1 or something.

ie... a user posts 400 times in a month, they pay what $4 for that month... And if the user posted 10 attachments they would pay an additional $1. This way users who do not post much will pay less, as they did not contribute as much to the site load.

of course, less posting users would still have the bennefit of all the good dialog and information on the site... so I'm not sure what the benefit of posting for some people would be...

And would be much more complex and require more admin work... so... maybe not a good idea after all... sorry, but just brainstorming to try and come up with a way to help... Whatever eveyone decides... I'm in...

That's the kind of attitude that will set this site apart and help it grow.
I think the money should come from advertising dollars and voluntary contributions. I'm willing to pitch in but I don't think the site will reach its full potential if restricted to paid members only.

Here are our cpu usage minutes since I've been tracking them:

5/18 Thursday: 221
5/19 Friday: 153
5/20 Saturday: 117
5/21 Sunday: 209
5/22 Monday: 435
5/23 Tuesday: 390
5/24 Wednesday: 351

Our "limit" is 60.

From what I've read, running PHP the way it is with this host causes it to use around 6 times what it should.

Notice that even on Saturday during the Riot Ride, we were right at double our limit.

Keep it free so you dont run off new people .... ask for donations from members.

SuperJETT said:
If we went that route, we could do away with advertising because the subscriptions would pay for the hosting and as before any extra goes back to the events, not our pockets.

Dont get rid of the advertising....its nice to know who supports us!
