On the $25/year option, I am against that after a lot of thought.

What I'm considering now is a combination of all of these, where we do a fundraising campaign to cover our costs for a year (once we find a dedicated server and know the costs).

I'd rather not do it at a ride, the rides are for fun, and worrying about money for the site just doesn't belong IMO.

I'll have to chat with Paul/Harrison about it, but I'm thinking we do one big campaign where we can do t-shirts ONCE, and we're done for the year hopefully. If contributors want a special tag or something for their signature or something, that's cool, but not required.

I do think we'll make one final big push to get advertisers to cover the $$$ and that's where all of the members can help, by telling the companies you deal with which site you frequent and that if they support the site, they are supporting the riders and not buying BMW's for me/Paul/Harrison (though if someone wants to donate one, that's fine with me!).

Sell stock in the site -

after all the folks move over from 'somewhere else' and then they buy the site, we'll be rich :Banane01: (anyone else notice the seemingly increased flow of persons coming over "just to check this site out" lately??)

Just so everyone knows, we are not in the business of selling shirts----I don't get paid to pack up shirts and mail them out, etc.

It's possible that we do a one-time thing as a fundraiser, but it's very labor intensive to pack up and mail t-shirts to 200 different addresses. We'll see.

We have some good developments just in the past 24 hours that may secure our future, stay tuned.

:hail: Thanks for all your hard work & I know whatever decisions are made will be best for the site & all of us involved. Let us know what we can do to help.:hail:

I had a little discussion w/ Pete via PM about this and so long as everyone who has donated to the double challengs is ok with it...I say the $$ would be best spent promoting our sport and what we love to do via puting it back in to the website. My plan was to donate it to a worth cause anyway.

Also, I think donations are the way to go. Just creates less hassel for the admins that way, and I am sure if there is a thread or something on the front page that states a goal, and how close/far we are from achieving it...people will be motivated to donate.

We are part of a great and very generous community and I think we could raise all we need by simply asking for it.

Manditory subscriptions would isolate our selves and would cut us off from new members, and I think that is the opposite of what we are going for.

I will gladly donate to help out the site...

Out of curiosity what would it cost to build our own server... Of course big enough to for expansion. Cant you lease that ******** form dell? That way it is always updated. I never really looked into it but I am sure you have. Just didnt see it mentioned. I will donate so let me know.

ill do what it takes to keep the site going with the extras like whos online, chat, and everything else.

pete and steve you guys are the sh*t!!!:Banane01:

i like all the ideas so far. And i dont think that donating the money raised at a freeride to the site would take any of the fun out of it. If anything it would make me feel a little better to be supporting something im a part of instead of the georgia youth sheriffs or whatever that was. but then again i do understand the need to giveback to the communitees we have the rides in.

keep up the good work!

Well, it's a leap of faith, I've started the process of moving to a new host. Expect some downtime this weekend at some point.

Go ride if the site is down, or at least look at your ski.

:frown: I can't ride until Monday since the wife is out of town and I have to watch my little girls.

Wait another week, Darin. :cool2:

I'll be happy to make a donation or whatever when you figure it all out.

Ross and Pancaker---awesome of you to volunteer your funds to the site. Both of you guys rock. :arms:

Totally agree that doing t-shirts could become quite a nuisance. Did anything ever happen with the Cafepress acct that pwct had? I use Cafepress and it's absolutely not a way to make big bucks, but it could be a very hassle free way to let members buy t-shirts, stickers, etc etc. They do all the shipping/dealing with customers. You just collect the checks. Whatever money is made could also be used to purchase your own products in bulk to sell/giveaway at freerides.

Just a sort of off-topic thought. I'd be happy to help maintain it. Maybe we could get Ronny to design some cool schit for us to slap on some products and buy.:cheer: :cool2: :sneaky:

Not much complaining, any issues out there?

I'm still working on the ads (sorry to our advertisers, changine php and mysql versions wreaked havoc on the system) and chat.

Other than those, just about everything is re-enabled.

BTW, on Sunday I had the old server's board disabled just about all day and the cpu usage was still ALMOST DOUBLE Dreamhost's limit.

Oh, the only small issue that may come up soon is attachments. I spent some time resizing the attachments from before the 200kb limit to get us down within our disk usage limit. We're ok for a while, but eventually I would like to move them to the Dreamhost account. That takes some hacking of vbulletin. We'll see about that.
