well after the move i got my ski into its nice new warm garage !! work now coming along at a rate of knots, pump shoe, pump mounts, ride plate, wider and longer and undercoat all done, got the strap mounts for the water box/fuel tank done and the engine is half built, just need a gasket or two to get done, will have more pics up soon as this should get done quite quickly now

wide bond rail well underway now, what a pain in the ass this is tho !!, my take on micro steering and the home made tubbies made ready to go on

bond rails now done, motor is built !! 765 cc case and barell ported, carbon reeds, 44mm sbn's, mrd girdled head, just the hood to fill and finish then the paint goes on, and have made a side exit exhaust but had to reposition the battery

nice build. Im looking at doing stuff like this to a kaw 650 this summer. Two things id like your opinion on. I like your idea to just mount the pole brackets to the side as a two piece system. I want to do the same thing and mount them to the inside of the hull so you won't see anything except maybe two metal washers to keep the pole from rubbing the fiberglass/paint. Or maybe just fiberglass them into the outside of the hull and cover them up (all depends on the spacing i guess). Also in my current 650sx there's at least 5-6 inches of space between the top of the spark plugs and the bottom of the hood liner. i want to widen the rails like yours. so im going to cut just under the bond rail all the way around the hull and then above the bond rail like 3 inches all the way around so i take out an entire 4 inch section to drop the top deck lower. and then when i glass it back up ill use the wide bond rail to reattach the top and bottom.

Does that make any sense? o, and my plan is to use a ported 61x with 750/800 pump setup, rocker the nose (somewhat like yours, i want to take the "V" stlye out of the front), and take a few inches off the back

sounds like a plan ! with the steering i would look at the thickness and strength of the mounting plates, plus you would also need to look at sealing the plates to stop any rot, the idea of chopping and dropping the top deck sounds ok too, try to split the two halves along the bond line, but imo you would only need to do the front half cos you would still need the tray sides to be stock height, oooorrrr you could do a flat deck with individual footholds !!!! (thats my next project)

im finishing putting a 750 in my current 650, should be done in a week. gotta mod the hood to fit a factory pipe and then mount the ebox, and a few other odds an ends. Ill start the next project after, actually just started looking at a sq nose hull thats like 3 hours away (im second in line and ill know by saturday if its stil available) if that doesn't work out than ill buy a stripped 650sx hull for 50 bucks which is close to me. i already have a 61x, that im working on getting apart.

can you explain the bars more? how did you mount that to your pole

the bars are phatboy mtb ones with the 31mm taperd tube, very strong and are 710mm wide to give more leverage, also raised to save my back!! the stem i bought was only a temp one to see if it would work ($40 with bars) now i know it will im having a stem and steering post made to fit.
the post and stem use sealed bearings bolts to the pole the same as any aftermarket system, like ATP or UMI, the cable attachment just bolts to the side of the new stem, hey presto, micro steering !! and the machining is costing me nothing cos i swapped it all for a set of tubbies !! i should be getting the bits back this week so i will throw up more pics so you can see
