Wuss.
It's not cold enough to need a heater.

The heat lamp is reserved for curing the epoxy.

Why not have some comfort, you can afford it. I keep my shop around 55 and the office part 65 unless foaming or curing resin.

Two reasons:

1. I have no money for heaters, as I don't currently own any

2. I am too lazy to get heaters, and even if I had them, I would be too lazy to turn them on hours prior to working.

Ergo, I just put up with the cold.

go buy a cheap turkey frier at walmart.......the base makes an EXCELLENT garage heater..

I heat mine up for like 20 mins before I go out there.......granted, I only use it when it gets down to the 30/40's....

Ive done that!

and if you fill the big turkey pot with WATER, the water stays warm for a long time.

nice to warm your hands on, or set foam/paint/epoxy on the lid of the pot to warm up ( with the burner OFF of course)

fumes are a slight concern, but I figure if a garage is drafty enough to be COLD its ventilated enough.

I havent died yet.

That still involves spending money.
I prefer working in the cold, as a means to punish myself for not doing things right the first time.

Because it's cold?

Or because I didn't do it right the first time? (<----pick that one)

Actually, I will bet that just about every single boat refoamed by anyone doing this for the first time will leak.

If they are using less than 4 pound foam I might agree, too soft.

Hogwash!
I don't think it has anything to do with what foam you use. Every single leak I have seen came from the following:
Through hull penetrations (exhaust, water tubes, steering tube, driveshaft tube)
Bolt inserts
Bondline

How would sturdier foam remedy any of those? :dunno:
