Surfriding Speed and Style Surf Competition 2013 Daytona Freeride

only the 800 year old jedi mastersi

Yeah, but l'll be 801 by next Freeride........I'll have to wash down a Geritol with a couple Ensures, wear an extra Dependz and I'll give it a go!

This is a cool idea....I've watched everyone's surf skills REALLY improve over the last 5 Freerides and it would allow that to shine.

You aren't allowed to compete, too good, isn't fair. You must judge.

Nick, no idea why you would want to restrict the type of skis either (except couches of course). Pete ripped on his old x-2 the General Lee recall? I’ve seen plenty do the same on their B1’s as well (Zimmys only one example), especially those in Cali...it's what a x2 or blaster does best within the surf.

Theres been talk of a surfriding only competion for the last three years at the Pismo ride in October but its never come together. Glad to see someone stepping it up.

I forgot!
That's why I asked. I don't surf stance much at l
All. I usually ride kicked it the holds. I can see how surf stance could gain more style point especially if they can switch stance like racers do for cornering.

Surf stylee contest for sure. 227 Spring freeride 5 weeks away lets blow it up. Looking forward to riding with you.

I was thinking the same thing. I really enjoy trying the surf riding style as well as watching it. I have also been paying attention to the "re-entry" thread to get an idea of what it should look like.
I would love to become a better rider in this style of riding, even looking into doing some tray and strap mods for a different stance in the hope of dropping the nose down for re-entries...

Let the B1's and X2's play too! :)

You are one of the best blaster riders I have seen, and I’m not easily impressed; Ewok and Butti, many others as well, are no candy apples when they get on one either. I wish my photos of you shredding had not been out of focus, because you blew away most other riders within the water (sooooo sry). Junkies have repeatedly rep’d in Tona with plenty of blasters along with their sj’s.

This is a great idea! I like doing barrel rolls and air tricks as much as the next guy, but most of my time riding is spent carving waves, slashing, and re-entries. Surf-riding is also cool to watch. I would love to see or compete in a competition based solely on that! Especially since I'm finally going to make Daytona next year!

BTW, not all of us Jersey guys are old :)

Would be cool to have different classes like stock hull, modified stock, aftermarket hulls, and even a blaster class!

maybe if they were sectioned off within the water all at the same time, so it wouldn't take as long as the races did (everyone was standing on the beach too long wondering what the heck was going on and why they couldn't ride). You forgot the x-2's.

ok, I understand that everyone wants to be involved, but time is the biggest factor to doing an event like this. It will need to flow at a very fast pace as far as getting riders in and out. I will devise a method to keep the flow going. That's why I wanted to release this info now so we could maybe come up with a solid plan and maybe work out some bugs doing a mock comp or a couple mock comps just to find where things need to be improved and made more fluid.

At this point I am going to limit the comp to stand ups only just due to ease of planning (don't take it personal). Also, no fixed steering sj's, pole skis only. Aftermarket hulls and any motor/pump combos are welcome as well.

question:
say a guy on a OEM hull, no holds, 701cc lands a perfect 3ft reentry nose down and smooth. Should he score the same as someone doing the same maneuver on a modded Rickter w/ a 865cc motor? Personally I would like to see the judges take into account the machine the person is riding and score accordingly. That's why judging will be a huge thing and it needs to be good.
