Surfriding Speed and Style Surf Competition 2013 Daytona Freeride

stock vs aftermarket hull points should definitely be taken into account.

maybe set up a maximum score allowed type of thing. say it's head to head and rider 1 has 865, Rickter, mag pump, rider 2 has OEM hull, Straps, limited 701. and we are scoring from 1-5 and 5 being the best. should rider 1 only be allowed a say 4.5 due to equipment? Not sure if something like this would be fair or consistent.

Don't get all freaked out if this sounds wacky to you, just trying to throw out ideas. Let me know what you guys think of this.

I think Andrew/Wydopen could kick many aftermarkets on a mere stock sj, and so could others...

Well I think the judging should be on rider skill on the ski that they are on. Obviously a stock hull will have its limitations compared to a short aftermarket hull in the surf. A rider that can absolutely shred on a stock hull shouldn't be given less points than an amateur on a Rickter.

It really comes down to the judges and their capability to acknowledge the difference and judge accordingly.

At this point I am going to limit the comp to stand ups only just due to ease of planning (don't take it personal). Also, no fixed steering sj's, pole skis only. Aftermarket hulls and any motor/pump combos are welcome as well.

Bummer, but I can see the reasoning due to early days of the competition. Maybe we can get a shot in future years? I like idea in general, I think it will allow recognition for riders who have a different but expert skill set that does not receive a lot of publicity apart from individual respect.

Someone mentioned leaving the decisions of who should score what depending on skill/years riding and setup. I think if you pick some neutral party seasoned riders who love the sport, provide them with each ridrs info on skill/years riding and the setup being used, they will recognize who the true winner is no matter what ski is being ridden.

why make it so complex? add or deduct points due to hull or pole or straps or what?

that makes no sense

run what you brung and whoever displays the most skill be will easy to spot

4 REAL! Don't make things more complicated then they need to be!

Besides look at the way everyone is modding there OEM hulls now...... $$$$$$ dont make skillz!

That was kinda gonna be my next question. If your deducting points for aftermarket hulls and big motors. Does that mean you can mod a stock hull all you want and not receive any deductions? If so i dont think thats fair, stock hulls can be made to perform just as well as a/m with some time and effort.

I say let the riding be the only thing thats scored. This will keep it simple. Just make sure the judges are "seasoned" enough to know when a guy on a rickter (or any ski with 4" bond rails) stuffs the nose and recovers it wasnt skill that saved him.

Ok, your voices were heard. No deductions for anything and run what you brung. I am not married to any of these ideas, I am simply throwing out questions.
