State of the industry - 2021

As far as tanks, there’s a guy that started making them in a bunch of colors for the 550 so I can reach out to him and see if he can look into superjet ones if that helps.

I know prices have gone crazy on old skis this year around here. The big question is will it last post COVID.

Vintage Jetski the company is going pretty strong too.

If I recall they had issues getting them working properly and the idea was abandoned. Perhaps I am wrong but that's the last I recall. It would be awesome to see something come of that technology.
No idea. Maybe someone that knows him can chime in. But being able to tune jetting via bluetooth sounds pretty damn awesome!

I'm so glad I finally got a b pipe locally a few years ago. I never thought it would get this bad. @Big Kahuna let us know if protec gets back to you please.

Is MSD done done or are they just getting out of the stand up game
MSD is just dropping the Pro Digital Watercraft Brain, I have been told they will continue to offer the coils, triggers and flywheels to support the brains in use but for how long is unclear. Automotive market is strong and profitable and certainly not going away. Watercraft Brain is a low sales, high warranty return rate and a component becoming obsolete from a vendor they decided to pull the plug.

State of the industry.

Just talking with some of my friends about what’s going on in the industry. We’re facing some interesting times; no more 2 strokes made by Yamaha, high market demand of mainstream water craft, shortages of all kinds of parts, Factory pipe production???, and now MSD total loss going away. I just want to break this down by parts and get your input. I’m by no means an industry insider, just talk to a lot of people. Just shooting off the cuff to spark conversation and info sharing.

Hulls:

  • I’ve heard Rickter Edge hulls have their production que full for 2021, which is great for them. If anyone else knows about the availability of their other hulls, feel free to chime in.
  • Tigercraft has been making a bunch of hulls and I hear of 4 month wait time is pretty typical. Not sure where they are today.
  • Lee Stone products Revolver Pro series is hot now, and apparently a long wait time.
Motors:

  • Dasa is back up making motors again, so that’s good.
  • TPE is supported by Paul Lehr and we can hope for more great things to come here. I’m expecting great things. Lots of stock, shorter wait times, great service (per usual). TPE pistons and other accessories stocked by Paul now.
  • Xscream and Phil Clemmens put out a 1015cc 10 mil stroke, but unsure of future production.
  • Paul Lehr, Jetmaniac offer porting services
  • Crankshafts: Competitive Crankworks in Idaho were great for me. I’ve heard Crankworks was quite a bit more expensive
  • Anyone forsee any supply issues with 62T crank cases going into the future? Not sure how long Yamaha will stock those.
Pumps:

  • Torrent still pumping out great stuff. Pumps, shafts, bearing kits, all top notch. Some of the high end stuff like the Ninja pump can have a long wait time.
  • Skat trak pumps still available. A good option for light weight competitive design.
  • I think the Silber pumps have stopped being produced.
  • Xscream and Phil Clemmens made a new pump, don’t know any details
Gas tanks:

  • Thrust tanks are no longer made. Those ones that fit well with laydown pipes. 4.5 gallon and what not, no longer made, hard to get
  • Cold fusion 4.5 gallon tanks are Out of Stock, not sure if they’ll make anymore but hopefully. The best option when using a b pipe.
  • Limited Slip tanks no longer being produced.
  • RRP rear tanks have been in short supply. Not sure when you’ll be able to get them.
  • I ordered two OEM tanks, one came quick, the other took 2 months. Don’t know if these will ever become short supply or not
Electronics:

  • MSD total loss stuff (just today I heard about this) will no longer be available. Not sure the details of this, but read on another thread about circuit boards not available. Don’t know if this will eventually include the Enhancer CDI.
  • Zealtonics new revision is out, smaller, no vampire draw. Heavier flywheels. Would be nice to get an aftermarket light flywheel for total loss
Midshafts

OEM Housings: Buddy and I have had some on order for 6 months. Who knows.

Exhaust

  • Factory pipe has been pushing back production of b pipes from months. I’m thinking one or two more production run, then who knows. Wonder when they’ll phase it out with the 21 4 stroke Superjet out.
  • RRP carbon pipes seem to come and go. Get one if you can if you need one.
  • Power Factors always seem to be available, which is great.
  • TNT are no longer made

Point out some other areas of weakness.

This has got me thinking with the increased demand in mainstream products, our small sport may suffer. Aftermarket has opportunity to make up in some of these areas but who knows.

What are your thoughts?
did you forget about ET maKing engines also PHP making engines and cranks, maxx is making pumps too

I think one thing the sport could really use is private riding areas. As water ways become more congested it would be nice to have areas to practice freestyle or running buoys with out having to listen to everyone bitch. Dig a giant hole and some canals at a motocross track charge $20 and let er rip. Plus no cops or people complaining.

Good call.

ET is still making motors at a reasonable price. I don't know of any locals to me that have one though.
PHP - I heard they could be done making jet ski motors. Just a rumor but the lead guy is losing interest. Their crank rebuild service and service in general from everyone I know is awesome. They have parts and build times are reasonable. Hope they stay in the game.

Maxx pumps. Don't see many people wanting these much.

The riding area accessibility is a big issue up here. Hardly any reasonable places to set out a buoy course without hassle, and the lakes only get more congested each year. I think having private riding areas is a good idea but I imagine a project like that would be bogged with endless local permitting and regulation issues.

Social Media Sites (Facebook, Instagram, etc etc) are taking users away from the X, PWCToday, Greenhulk, etc etc etc. Been a trend that has been going on for a few years ago. We all go there. We also see the mass post dumping on Marketplace ads..... I only know of one FB Group for ski's where they actively moderate. They are members here on the X and have kinda used our methods as a guide. I only know of one Group that does have a database setup (Vintage 550), you post something, good luck finding it next week on FB. This site really is just a living data base. We need more people to start using the X more for it to stay afloat! Same can be said for Greenhulk and PWCToday. Those 2 other sites have their market. I remember when you had to come here to find out about up coming freerides, or go to PWCToday to find out about upcoming races.

I think Skat availability went way down too. Skat absorbed Impros, so that's about the only impeller game in the business now right?

Skat absorbed Impros -false. Impros is still a separate company as always. Impros was sold to Glen that used to work at Skat awhile ago, maybe that is what the confusion is.

Great thread idea, there is so much change happening, it is hard to keep up. Might want to add the parent company of SBT buying HydroTurf and moving it to Florida, and raising prices.

Great input.

How much have Hydroturf prices gone up?

I'd be pretty thrilled to see a 62t option just so the price of 64x electronics go down. Also some racing classes don't allow converting.
If you were racing and running Total Loss then your racing a Mod Class where you could change ignitions.
