settle down now....

my thoughts:

  1. give it to a kid under 18
  2. make them sign a waiver that if they sell it, the money goes to the charity or wherever we choose. we don't want someone selling it for profit in 2 weeks.
  3. they can sell it after 1 year of riding it or pass it on to another rider... if they don't ride it, they loose it.
  4. I think having strings attached will make the person realize that this is a gift w/ conditions... I really don't think there should be a raffle per say, I think we should just pick a qualified person through free drawing... we can put all the terms of ownership on the sign up sheet for them, that way we know they know we are serious..

hell of an idea nick, that would make a future freerider very happy. If the person out grew it or got another ski then this ski should revert back to a donation ski. it should never be paid for as all the parts are donated. just make it a rule of owning the ski. even if they end up keeping the hull and putting a 701 in it then the parts taken off should be donated to build another donation ski.

I'll take it a step further... We should create a deadline of say December 15th for essay entries and have the members of X-h2o vote. It could be one of those invisible ballots where only the mod would know who the winner was. When the Daytona Freeride came, the winner could be announced during the event.

This keeps getting better and better. I was soooo hoping this ski would get found and the "build" would be raffled for JK or something. But I like the idea of the ski going to a kid, too. This would promote the sport and help develop new riders.

Maybe it could be like an annual traveling trophy type set-up. The kid gets to keep it and learn on it for a year. Gives him/her time to try it, get hooked, show the parental units that he/she is serious. Also gives him/her time to save up the pennies to buy one for themself. The "trophy" ski would them go to the next essay winner?

Either that or a new "raffle" ski is built every year, so we are bringing even more riders into the sport. This way the kid could customize if they wanted and upgrade the ski. This would make it worth more money (if they decided to sell) for going back into the build pot. Big problem is the time, energy, hassle of collecting parts, etc, and who are we going to get to do this?

Just a few more thoughts.

I thought this was all done. What do you still need, update your first post with what's still needed. Makes it easier for us lazy buts to keep up.

I'm not really involved in this but I really like this idea. The idea of combining education and something that might be considered an "extreme sport" is awesome. If this happens and I can contribute anything I'm in.

the list on the first page is current.

as of 10/19/07 4:20 pm, we need:

driveshaft (long)
steering cable
wear ring section of pump

lets please get this ski together before advertising it as a giveaway. i dont want to show up w/o a complete ski.

we all know what happens when THAT happens.

UPDATE-

paul picked up his ski today. he it the start button and it fired right up! revved it a couple times and shut it off.

HE SHOULD JOIN THE SITE AND GIVE US THE DETAILS ALREADY!

-i know youre reading this, paul!-

you guys are onto something. I see there are a lot of good hearted people willing to help out. Make it happen! I'm pretty sure we all would help out the cause. we are all changing parts on our skies ,why not donate those parts we no longer are using to help out a less fortunate person. let them enjoy what we enjoy every time we go out. and a minor is the perfect person. us older( 20 and up) have jobs, make ok money, to where we can afford something. Sometimes these kids don't. don't have parents that are willing to help or are unfortunate to help. the jobs they can get, barely will cut it for gas and launch fees. you know what i mean. so lets see this happen. and I'm really glad to have found this place and people like you!

If all agree and this ski is built I think it should be donated to the Junior Life Guards along with the large check.
Just think of the next generation of riders who would come out of this.
It could become a surf rescue square, how cool would that be.
