Want to build a transmitter you can locate underwater? Build an acoustic one. Just a simple ping device. You can pick that signal up for miles, and it would be easy to locate.

Having a ski with open bulkhead and no foam is fine for flat water in a shallow river or lake. You don't bring that ski out in angry waves in the ocean or Great Lakes. Weight savings is great for flat water but in waves you really don't need to loose 10-20lbs off your ski to catch huge air.

Its my only boat, rode in both flat and surf conditions...

Anyways still no luck today. Supposively a fireboat went out today and scanned for a bit but really have no clue where they looked. Also had a diver today and did a radius scan of 100ft or so where I thought it went down. NOTHING. I am thinking a much larger scan, or moved a little bit. The clearity is such crap its like looking through chocolate milk. There's no freaking way I can see in the water with a helicopter until it settles for a few weeks straight which we will not see for a few months. Winds pick up this time of year FML.

IDK what to do relying on other people for diving etc. A charity fund would be nice... its starting to really effect me

Hang in there Zack, keep spreading the word and I'm sure that an opportunity will present itself and help you find it just for kicks. There's always someone looking to practice diving or test out some new technology. Any search and rescue teams in your area? University or Marine Tech schools?

Is that an area that ices over? If so, how turbulent would it be still and would visibility improve any? You could lay out a search grid on the ice and search with a weighted camera thru a series of holes...

That Sucks! I have recovered snowmoiles and boats but never a ski. Really hope you find it! If you get it back you should keep a rope with a marker jug tide to it in the event this happens again! nothing big just a little jug or floating rope. Hind sight I know, just sayin.

PS I know in Canada you can rent scuba with out license. maybe try that. I am certified and its not rocket science, go under the water and breath, once you wrap your head around breathing underwater your golden! Thats what I would do.

Zach didn't build the ski, he bought it that way. He is new to riding (and is kicking some ass) so cut him some slack about the foam. I am sure all skis will be foamed from now on. Anyways.....Zach, it is supposed to be super warm this fall (with lots of south winds) and we often get a week straight of flat this time of year followed by a week of waves. The water will clear up and we will find this sucker. I think we just have to be patient....it's not going to go over Niagara falls or move that far at this point. Handlebars are probably dug into the sand and it is prob on its side.

My confidence is still VERY high that we will find it. I think your going to have to relax and wait for good weather (work on foaming the new ski and getting it runnin right?)

You have to snare a fishing boat , spend some days trolling a grid and really do some'' fish finding'' .. its the only way to possibly find it . Fish finders are your eyes in dark waters . one of the Cleveland crew has to have a BOAT !!! dont give up

Design a small self contained system that contains a tightly coiled high grade heavy duty stainless steel cable rated for a few thousand pounds, 50 feet long, connected firmly to the ski on one end. The other end is connected to a heavy duty rubberized float. The float is deflated, connected to a compressed CO2 canister. Pushing the panic button on a sinking ski releases the CO2, inflates the bouy, busts the strap and allows the cable to release. The cable is rated strong enough to lift the ski including moderate undertow and obstruction. Heavy obstruction it works as a guide to remove the ski. Make the system redundant so that if it detects that it is under water pressure > 10 feet for more than 10 minutes it automatically deploys.

Much lighter, and more importantly, less complexed and cheaper than foam...

Un the US, you have to present your certification card from who you were certified in order to rent equipment. At least in my experience.

Though diving is quite simple, I wouldn't encourange anyone to just go out and rent equipment and go diving. At least not without someone who is experienced and knowledgeable about diving, dive tables, or some sort of instruction.

Remember, you can only dive so many hours a day before the nitrogen level get to high then it's unsafe to dive.

I understand the lack of foam. Useless weight. I persoanlly found my hood to be too heavy and unnecessary in preventing the ski from sinking, so I usally ride w/o a hood. I removed 2 motor mounts because I found a front left and back right to be sufficient. I use duct tape instead of a gas cap. I don't wear a helmate or shoes, and ride in a speedo, because gear and clothing are worthless weight. I also take laxatives and put my finger down my throat before I ride. Oh, shave your parts, that saves some ounces, also looks better with the speedo. I have lots of brillant other weight saving suggestions if you are in need.

I probably shouldn't make jokes, since I want to build a tripple X2, which is pretty much guarenteed to sink, no matter how much foam I put in it.

There fixed it for you ... ARE YOU GUYS LISTENING ! With a HIGH quality gps sounder , a qualified operator and some people on the shore flagging grid line way points YOU CAN FIND IT ! Your area has some of the most dedicated fishermen in the country ..... THEY FIND STUFF ON THE BOTTOM . MY name on the board is sportfish ..... i have fished a LOT of king fish tournaments in years past ...... guess what ! WE FOUND STUFF ON THE BOTTOM !

Just to drive home the point Home . Wonder how Walleye fishermen know where the fish are .... care to guess ... go ahead .... try it.... fill in the blanks. They use sounders to F__D ST_FF _N T_E BO__OM ...





Call some local experienced guides and end this thread with ... VICTORY . Time to cut bait or fish boys .....
