He may have been referring to his current mold for the Badass bottom deck. I'm not aware of very many Badass hulls that were longer than -2" so maybe he changed his mold and you are right about that part. But to avoid confusion Matt_E is correct about how the measurements of hull length are determined

The one he's buying is mine. It's a 1.5 freak. The 1.0 version with the swooped gunwales was a non-rockered bottom deck mated with that top deck. My model was the same top deck with bottom deck modded to the Badass specs for front and rear rocker with improved intake design. It is a "full length" freak but -2" in comparison to a SJ. The Badass is technically SF 2.0. It's all bunch of mumbo jumbo anyway.

The carbon SJ based skis he pumped out were considered "pre-freaks"

The badass bottom deck is what makes these hulls a "home-run". It's a mold that's suited for virtually all riding types from flat to surf and when shrunk down to the circus u have ultra nimble, ultra light badass that is the flat water freestyles wet dream...that said, I don't even own a freak anymore but wouldn't hesitate to have a fleet of them from full length 1.5 version to a circus with gi-normous powa. Tem's got standup hydro-design figured out.

I'm running a skat swirl 12/17 in my setup (SF 1.5, stock SJ pump, 701 w/ pipe, head, reeds, lightened flywheel, msd etc). Is that the best thing for it or would I be better served by something else? I'm pretty much only interested in low end grunt, she's no buoy racer.

What would be my next step if I need more power - upgrade the pump and then start looking into the bigger CC motors for next year?

Ya the Badass is really setup for pumps 140 to 150mm , yes it is possible to stuff a 155mm in with some work but the pump tunnel is somewhat choked . The Circus is set up for 155 to 162mm pumps as it is our all out pro level freestyle ski . We are considering doing a hybrid Badass / Circus that will accept the 155 to 162mm pumps , the big pumps mellow out the abrupt arm yanking hit by trading more volume vs velocity that the smaller pumps make when hooked up to the big motors, that being said you can make a 148 work well on motors of 1100cc and up if setup correctly .

I must mention the tight pump tunnel is by no means a flaw or something that was overlooked. The Superfreak's attention to detail is focused more on performance than aesthetics which is also how they are so light yet so strong. With the pump tunnel being so tight it allows a lower tray and lower center of gravity. If you drop a bolt under the engine you aren't reaching under to grab it, you need to tip the hull and let it roll out into the open. Some may care about appearance more than performance but it's these details that make a Superfreak handle so well and be such a forgiving hull. I prefer performance which is why I chose my Freak
