So then you saturate the carbon after it has been placed on the wet surface? I'm sure you're not just wetting out one side right? That's a pretty clever technique.

Exactly, I have actually applied it to a dry surface before as well and wet it out after and it worked okay but by wetting the surface first I think you have less chance of dry spots but see what works for you.

For this build I used the same technique for the biax but applied resin to the back side of the cut pieces with the wax paper on and then laid them on a pre-wet surface before applying resin to the top. That helped big time to saturate the biax and once I was done with that I just laid the carbon down dry to soak up whatever excess resin was left before finally wetting out the carbon.

I ended up dropping the hull off at a local paint shop over the weekend. I was originally planning to spray it myself but after spending as much time as I have on it I figured I would do it justice and have it sprayed professionally in a booth, plus I got sick of sanding. Once I get it back I can epoxy the inserts and start assembly. Trying to get it together by WaveRave!

How much did the paint job end up costing? Did you supply them with the paint?

It'd be sweet to see this at waverave.

We haven't worked out a final price yet as the shop is going to block it back down first to get an idea of how much time it will take to get it looking how I would like. As of right now we are in the same ballpark price range ($5-600). I am supplying them with the paint and requested a nice OEM or better finish but nothing show quality as I'm sure it will get beaten up over time. The paint is PPG Single Stage Acryclic Urethane - Grabber Blue.

Wow they did a great job painting and you did an excellent job prepping the hull!

You wouldn't happen to know about how much paint it took for the bottom deck? I bought 2 quarts of urethane paint for both decks per the auto shop's recommendation but they didn't actually see my ski they just thought that sounded about right.

Thanks! I will check to see how much paint is left the next time I get a chance to stop by the shop. I gave them a gallon total which I figured would be overkill, but I wanted to have extra for any repairs that might be needed down the road.

Looks like I will be able to pick it up this weekend. Took just over two quarts of the color for everything.
