lol sorry boys, I have posted up stuff before it was ready and it bit me in the arse Hard! I just couldnt keep it bottled up any longer and had to let at least a little word loose. aaaaaannnnndddd now its a daily pm from several peeps. not complaining but I know its killing a few of you, its def killin me not to have these done. but you know how it goes, money, kids, life, thinking about it, change it, more life, worry a ton, change design again, worry a lot more, life, money etc.

I am mere weeks away from an unveil. I am trying not to build it up, its just 3way adjustable footholds for 250 shipped. Thats all I can say. I promise I am not trying to tease, I just dont want to let it loose until I have a completely ready to ship part in my hand and that pic will be here and then the part will be on its way.

I'll go run some recon when I know Tom isn't at his shop. No windows and only 1 door. Might be hard to get in.

This recon is pretty important. I might just remove the door. I'll put it back up with some Duct tape. He'd probably never know. He doesn't sleep and has unprescribed fiberglass contacts as a result of constant fab.

I'm putting together a list of composites etc for the hull.

I kinda want someone to check my plan. I'm sure i'm over thinking it because I over think everything.

Currently there is nothing in terms of engine bay reinforcement (just incase you just joined the thread).
I ride Flatwater and want to make this hull light as possible. I plan on weighing it before I start cutting into it to know where I started. Its gonna be heavy.

Where I need guidance (I may just do a search as I know this info is on the X somewhere.) :

Prepping the bottom of the hull to properly bond all reinforcements: From what I understand I need to really scrub it with wax and grease remover, then sand it with coarse grit to promote adhesion. Is this correct?

Sides: Grind ribs, fill bond line with epoxy/ Cabosil mix. But what is a good reinforcment combination? My plan is to use a layer of Kevlar first, followed by a thick layer of carbon. I want to Vacuum bag it but i've been told that it won't work on the sides.

Bottom of Bilge: I don't think the bottom sees that much abuse, so i'm thinking of just adding a thick layer of CF. Is this a good plan? Am I way off?

Shorten rear: I want to take 2-4 Inches off the back of the ski. I'm thinking 3 is the magic number. So once again, if you have any suggestions, please chime in.
I think i'll re-use the end caps, so i'll take the 3" out, glass the ends back on etc...

Defoam/Refoam: Pretty standard, remove the stock foam. Add the home insulation foam, two part foam as a filler... done. I'm gonna run PVC along the bottom towards drains, so if any water gets in, it'll drain. Glue all the tubes... I think I need to replace some of my trim tubes. Also I think the water coming in is around the intake grate bolt holes. So I have to seal those up. I feel pretty confidant about this part, but feel free to tell me otherwise.

Tray: My tray might be the thickest tray on the planet... maybe the universe. I figure i'll gut whats there and build an entirely new one. Not sure if i'll lay directly onto the foam mentioned above or lay it up on a sheet of glass and then install and trim. Seems like on the foam would have more adhesion. I'll probably make some sort of front foot hold. I plan on using the Kevlar/ CF combo here as well. Same question: Am I on the right track or way off?

Gunwales/Holds: If you think i'm running a all new adjustable foot hold..... well.... congratulations for A: being able to read, and B: having deductive reasoning. *high five* So the plan is reinforce the rear bond line (I guess that would be part of the defoam section). I'm going to use as much home insulation foam as possible in the gunnies. Since these holds are SO topsecret :sneaky: I can't say much more.

I think thats it...

I'm sure this is gonna go like every other build thread where the poor confused OP asks questions and nobody who knows the answers reads the thread.
So the OP.... is all sad and junk.

So i'm just gonna wait here................

Until I get some answers.

Seriously... if my plan sounds legit say "Sounds good."
And for the love of god... if something sounds wrong, please tell me.

the sides can be vac bagged, just not something I would recommend to a first timer. u can try it but do it somewhere easier first like the tray. or a bilge hole you want to fill. you can use a shop vac for a poor mans setup but honestly with the minimal amount you are doing I dont see the benifit for the time, money and effort involved. x10 if you screw up and have to start over and x100 if you are wasting carbon and kevlar doing it.

but im just an coot, so you gotta consider my old outdated thinkerin.

now if we are talking a repair where you grind that whole ski down to just gelcoat or paint and vac bag a whole new ski to it then HELL YA!!!!!

Sounds good, if i were you i would widden the tray. I did it on my ski as well as tray length footholds and it was by far the best move i made. Being able to have a wide stance feels much more natural to me.

When he puts in the adjustables the back of the tray will be as wide as can be
