the sides can be vac bagged, just not something I would recommend to a first timer. u can try it but do it somewhere easier first like the tray. or a bilge hole you want to fill. you can use a shop vac for a poor mans setup but honestly with the minimal amount you are doing I dont see the benifit for the time, money and effort involved. x10 if you screw up and have to start over and x100 if you are wasting carbon and kevlar doing it.

but im just an coot, so you gotta consider my old outdated thinkerin.

now if we are talking a repair where you grind that whole ski down to just gelcoat or paint and vac bag a whole new ski to it then HELL YA!!!!!

So... wait.. Wut?

Last sentence confused me. You think Carbon inside is a waste? Talk to me bro, er... um... Brah..

Sometimes..... I think some of you, just post random gif's in here. No reason, no point.

LOL that bear is killing me tho. Jesus that's funny. I've been staring at that for like 5min giggling.

Thats my way of letting you know im watching this thread like a tasty lunch! And yes i posted that because i knew a couple of you would apprecitate it.

What you said sounded good. I have never used carbon or kevlar, i used regular fiberglass. Also i started a gif thread in the off topic section so i don't clutter up your shiz.

I have not worked with kevlar, but understand its a real bitch. hard to cut, hard to sand. Get some S glass or biax and 40grit paper and git bizzy
I don't know if you really get much if any weight wavings if you from CF if you are just laying it up.

Get a big caulk tube of 5200. Keep 5200 in the freezer so the rest does not harden. Females really love 5200 in the freezer

I have worked with kevlar, its a bitch, it does not sand ,you need special scissors to cut it and it does not grind, if you try to sand or grind it you will sand or grind the resin, the kevlar will remain. You will feel like you are doing this sanding or grinding Kevlar.

kevlar is the devil.

WFO, no offence but you suck at the whole interweb/meme/pic thing...I think you just come from the wrong generation to get it.

didnt say that at all, what I said was to try and bag the sides is high risk. reinforce is a yes.

the last line was a bad attempt at a joke? meaning to grind all the fiberglass away and only be left with the gelcoat. (impossible) then bag a new carbon jetski in the gelcoat.

and I know the feeling of a post where you are looking for some advice and its like crickets in a field.

basically you laid out the standard plan, nothing too crazy or off the mark. therefore no correction necessary?

Swapmeet, I'm in the same situation with you on reinforcement and defoam/refoam. For reinforcement, I'm probably going to do 3 layers of 7781 and 1 layer of Kevlar. Maybe just 2 layers of 7781 and 1 layer of Kevlar. Should be strong enough for my riding style. For refoam/defoam, I have not decided which ever to use two-part foam or those pink foam you can get from Lowes that doesn't waterlogged.

Kevlar if you do decide to go that route is best used as an in between layer, lay the kevlar down first then cover it with Biax, carbon, whatever, I would even leave the kevlar a little shy just to be sure the edges of it are covered., its much easier to grind carbon or fiberglass than kevlar.

This sounded like a good idea, so I started grinding away my hull from the inside the other day. The gelcoat just keeps cracking. Now I have a big hole in the side of my hull. How to I fix the broken gelcoat and how do I finish grinding away the remaining fiberglass to prep for the layup?
