Tubbies are blended in real nice, I'm in the blending phase now and I don't think mine will come out this good. What is the length on that FX anyway? It's looking real good

Well this is moving along nicely with much less hicups than I expected.

95% done with the cooling lines, have to swap ports for the line coming from the pump because I filpped the stator over today for steering cable clearance.

Ran all cables and wires through the handle pole. I need an extra rubber boot thing, I only have one. Bought some pool hose today that I thought would work perfect but it was too big.
What I have will work, just gonna take on water some.
Glued some turf to the floor for the fuel tank and waterbox to keep them from sliding etc.
I 404'd strap mounts down for the water box.
I mounted my pissers.
Made a mount for the trim cable off the pump. (still have to figure out how to attach it to the trim ring)
Shimmed the engine, pretty sure its good.
Turfed the rails.
Ran my fuel line. ( I need a fuel selector switch! )
Made the extention for my steering cable.

I think thats it for now...

And pics..

My big goal was to start it yesterday, but all the little detail stuff was eating me up.

Swapped inlets for the cooling line after I flipped the stator. Capped off the other inlet.
5200'd the trim tube line.
Fuel tank mounted (hopefully for the last time!)
Battery tray in.
Mounted base for 800gph bilge in front of engine. (still need to wire switch etc)
Put new Cold Fusion Throttle lever on.
Installed Watcon hood seal.
Mounted hood straps and ratchet.
Got my exhaust hose, not a huge fan of the fit, and its not quite long enough.

Anybody have any feedback on using PVC for exhaust?

Left to do:
Re-install pump
Install trim lever
Hook up cable to trim ring (still not sure).
Throw battery in
Make exhaust extention from PVC
Make handle pole pad
Turf 1/3 of tray and one gunwale

Hopefully I can get crackin and start it tonight.

I spend a great deal of time walking around the ski looking for some random tool. 10mm deep well 1/4" drive socket has been missing for days.

Ok, another update... Doing some spiffy stuff with the trim, not done yet but i'm pretty excited.
Kind of a Ghetto easy pull setup.

Put the pump back in last night, started it. Sounds awesome. Thanks to Dragginblazer with the solution to my 'no starting' issue. Clean the S/S switch contacts. Genius.

Gonna need a throttle wheel for the new throttle lever to work. So I might have to stick the factory lever back on until I find something. The lever wont spring back, it sticks at WOT, that can't be good.

Stayed up so late working on it, trying to remember what all I did. Oh, I made a exhaust adapter out of PVC, I had 1.75 ID on my hose, and the bulkhead adapter was 2.5 ID, so I had to rig something up. Seems to work good so far, the test will be when it gets some heat and water on it.

Got the steering tuned, moved the mount as close in on the steering nozzle as possible for max throw. Still don't feel like i'm getting the kind of throw I should be getting but its dialed in with pretty much equal throw in each direction. I had to make another extention to get it just right.

Last thing I did was make a handle pole pad for the hood. Used some 25mm pad and covered it in snow camo. Hope it holds together LOL.

Welp... tomorrows the big day. Gonna take it on the madien voyage.

Still need to make a pole limiting rope, completely forgot about that.
My trim is horrible, I'm gonna have to go back to the drawing board on that. I get horrible throw from my lever, stinks cause I think I had a pretty cool idea.

Anyway, its late and i'm tired. So heres the pics, i'll discuss more later.

Nice work Swap, looks like a real ski again. Must be a good feeling to have it all put together. I wouldn't worry too much about the trim, heck i might have mine for sale if I don't like it. Not sure how much it is going to help our ski's if it is a benefit or not for wake set up. I'm certainly not going to be any backies with a 760 power plant. Best of luck with the first ride. Report back

Thanks man... i'm really hoping today goes smoothly. Gonna go to the hardware store at lunch and get a return spring for the trim, Just to help hold the nozzle down more than anything.

So heres my trim. I think I need to mount the bearing closer to the pivot to get more throw. It works, but the throw is crap.
I tied the cable to the lower pump bolt because i'm still getting everything tuned and didn't want to cut the cable too short and be screwed. Once I get everything more or less dialed in i'll tie it off to the upper bolt.

Comments?

Ride was a massive failure, but after scavaging parts off my wifes perfectly good WB1 i'm good to go. Probably won't get to test it out until i'm due for my first ride with my buddies this Sat for my burfemday.

Trial by fire I guess... Can't wait. This thing sounds nasty!!! Braaap!!!

Ok, went for a real ride on Sat... I have some ideas on my problems and would love to hear feedback.

The ski rides nose high... like really really bad. I think that because the nozzle is pushed out SO far behind the ski, that the trim is being engaged by the forward momentum of the ski.
I'm gonna make a "lock out" for it and try again. Does this sound plauseable to ya'll? I don't want to get a spring thats so strong it holds the nozzle down against this force, because then I have to pull against that spring with the trim lever. Which will result in streched cables and arm pump etc... Maybe Trim isn't for me.

I made a exhaust adapter out of PVC. 1.75" to 2.5" ID. Well it melted after riding for awhile. Which filled the ski with water, stalled the engine, and since I don't have a bilge hooked up nearly sank the ski as I tried to swim it in. Scuppers only work if your riding! Going to make one out of Aluminum, getting the parts today.

And lastly, my carb is a mess. Its loading up at half throttle. I still don't completely understand carbs etc, but i'm gonna pull it, check everything. Popoff, jet size etc. I have some numbers written down that others have had success with. Try to come up with something that will work for me.

I do have some good news. Saturday morning I cobbled together a chin pad from scratch. I used one sheet of aluminum and one sheet of staineless I had laying around. (I didn't have enough to make it out of one piece.) I didn't scuff the metal before turf so its not holding very well. I'm gonna pull it all off, scuff it and use some 9mm pad under the turf.

sorry to hear it's been a rough go since you dropped it in the water. Do you have a standard nozzle you can throw on the pump to eliminate your trim being the problem?

Carb question I'd go straight to Harry Klemm with Group K for starting recommendations if you haven't already done so.

Nice enginuity on the chin pad, once it's covered looks good.

Better luck on the next ride, hopefully you can start checking the problems off and the rides get better and better.

Yeah its a learning process.

Unfortunately because I had to make extentions on my nozzle because my pump is pushed back, I'd have to modify another nozzle. So i'll test it with the lock out and see if its worth the effort.
Yeah, chin pad is ugly as bare metal but looks fine and is sturdy when its wrapped. Looks a TON better than stock.

I made the exhaust adapter tonight but had to help out around the house, couldn't put it in. I think i'm gonna make another one so I can run my exhaust hose differently, a longer one. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

Well, I messed something up. Have a air leak somewhere, engine is free revving. Engine problems depress me something ferocious... Hate it hate it hate it.

Next step is to do a pressure test, my luck it'll be a crank seal.
