IMO your going to want to make pole mount flat. This gives you the most versatility with different poles and brackets. Plus unless the underside is on the same angle you will have the bolts trying to net against a compound angle and could increase stress on the structure and/or a sloppy bracket. And I wouldn't mount the pole all the way to the nose unless your after backflips. To me it makes it a lot harder to stab and can only speculate harder to role and stay flat/tucked.
