Quick backstory, bought my first ski (90 SN w/ 701) in March, lightly modded it with prop, intake, nozzle & got a crash course in jet ski mechanics fixing carb, replacing pole, new fuel lines, etc etc. Ran her in the surf, enjoyed the heck out of it, but knew within a month I wanted to upgrade and dumping $ into a SN wasn't the best choice. Pic attached.
After a couple months of looking on various places, I bought a backie chan with the following per owner:
all brand new with maybe 10 hours on it, hull only thing not new, 735 motor, 62t cases epoxied and finger ported, 61x top, stock lighten flywheel, exhaust manifold and head pipe have been bored out, mag 12 vein, hooker 10/15, Stock dual 38 mikuni carbs, 62t electronics, trim, worx201 type intake, 185 compression
Well....this thing is about night and day compared to my SN. Foot holds seem a little far back, but I am getting use to them. That nose rides high & she porpoises in an instant if not far enough forward. Below are some pictures. Any advice on making an upgrade to an AM hull like this? Just some ride time I imagine (on calm or flat water until I am comfortable in surf). Really pleased with how it handles, just getting use to her, literally have less than 2 hours riding (bought last weekend).
So a few questions:
1. How do I flush? Has duel pissers, so I can't just backflush through one, the other head gets hot pretty quick. I assume I can install a tee and a quick connect, but where? Pics attached.
2. Not that I am looking to upgrade because she is more than I can currently handle....but what would be my next upgrade? Carb I would assume is one engine mod left. Not sure if there are some handling items like sponsons or if guys out there are running a different set up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
3. Upkeep for a saltwater ski & general - I have switched to Yamalube (50:1), use 93 octane with Sta-Bil, rinse & flush every time with salt away, spray down with a lubricant afterwards (CRC or other marine lube), use dielectric grease in connections & terminals....think that's it. Any other suggestions?
Most everything I have learned has been through this site, this place is awesome.
Also, how do I deal with an angry wife? A Blaster maybe? lol
