The electric Jet ski!!

I just found out the guy that has the patten for the electric jet ski is my neighbor! hahaha! he was on a gtx hull with a 40 HP motor in it.... he didn't know why it wouldn't get on plane. i give the puzzled look. :squint: i also told him about the 550/440/300 and how they had run about that much power and he though that the stand up crowd was long gone. I will be helping him desighn the first electric stand up ever hopefully... batteries in the tray with the 440 pump... who wouldn't want an electric ski? maybe thirty minutes of run time though..:arms:

I AM INTERESTED....
Surf riding is outlawed in Northern Cali, I would like to one day ride the surf here once again.....
What Hull are you going to use as prototype?

There is definitely potential out there, we just need the right people to come together and work on it.
These Company is local in my area and already designed a Coucher, http://www.ecowatercraft.com/
I have sent them many emails and offered Help on developing a Stand up model. Nothing back yet:

I don't know who this guy is but this is pretty damn close to a stand up or maybe an X-2. If you can shorten that tray and add a pole....

This company in Taiwan also develops electric toys: http://www.justwin.com.tw/

Check the electric Surfboard they have. I can have a better used for that engine:

I am interested so please keep me posted.

I'd be worried about the run time.

Electric does have the power, plus load of torque right now...

Check out what what can be done on a drag bike with the right batteries and motors.

Absolutely!
The torque is instant....Check this one out:

If the right people got together and sat down and thought this through, I am pretty sure we can have the first Electric Stand up come to realization.

Yeah sure, only 20 minutes of battery life....only 25 MPH....but this is just the beginning.
Besides if a guy can used a Foam board with NO engine and surf a wave, I really don't believe you need that much power to do your thing either. It won't be a racing boat that is for sure but for surf.....Oh my....Oh my.....

true that. but it will get sunk buy someone. what about the heat ? has to be vented somewhere. put 3 peolpe on it it will be upside down in 5 mins. lol it will never be sold in the us. sue sue sue

what market do you think an electric ski would be sold to? stand ups hell no theres no money in it. the speed control makes a ton of heat as does the motor. its a nice idea . but it wont work.

Heat? 3 people? What are you talking about?

Newtons Laws... "Energy can not be created or destroyed.... It can only change form..." So when you run electric motors, just like gas motors... There is heat created that has to be dissapated or it will overheat just like a gas motor... Except when batteries and electic motors overheat they just don't blow a head gasket and quit... The blow literally!:261: The biggest heat offender is prolly the speed control or rheostat... Its a big variable resitor which basically eats up current by heating up to control speed... It is basic job is to just turn energy into heat...

p.s. There is a guy in the New Jersey area building atleast and 80 hp SXR... out of DJkorn's old Stock SXR Hull... There is a couple threads around here about it... :splatt:

Instant torque available, lipo cells that weigh next to nowt... Will it happen? Of course it will. I would be suprised if EME or similar weren't experimenting already. Heavy motors and Nicads are a thing of the past...
IMHO The enviro slant is BS - the power comes from somewhere (Coal/gas/nuclear power station) no such thing as a free ride..

Crab built one using a 550 hull about 20 year's ago he lives on a non motorized lake they rode it all around there.
The advantage now day's is the Lithuim Ion battery!

I'm a big fan of electric powered things and I have been messing around with a carbon downhill bike with a 7000watt pwm motor, But the current stand up hull shapes are set up for handeling vs low drag. The power contained in one lb of petro still kicks butt on the current best (weight to power ratio) Batt. lipo...... If Stanton Universty had not sold out to Middel East , we might have a batt. that could have 10 times the energy storage of even Lipo. That would be a game changer. There have been major advances in speed controllers and motors in the last few years , the hang up is the Batt. IMHO.

i have messed with R/C planes and cars all my life. mostly 3D planes, and if the electric motors thrust to weight ratio will crush the nitro's on small scale just imagine the potential! i will have an extra x-2 hull soon so maybe that will be the test subject... i am going to talk to him sunday. 20 minutes of backies doesn't sound bad with 30 min of charging...

It can work, battery is the key. Look where cordless tools are nowdays, no one thought it possible years ago but it works. I would love to see electric in freestyle at the WF's, remember it only has to go strong for 5 minutes and needs no warm up!

I am not a "Tree Hugger", as a matter of fact I despise them just like any other radical group out there. They are powerful lobbyists and have, many times over, got what they have fought for. They won in Northern California....PERIOD.

The only way someone will ever be able to ride the surf is with a "non-emissions" Jetski. I believe it does not have to be a fast boat but one with the most torque out of the hole. When you go out in the surf you are not doing 40mph, you are usually circling around waves at maybe 10mph tops, perhaps 15mph. Is the waves the ones that have the power, you just need to ride them and have that torque to maneuver in and out and to get some air as well.

The heat issue can be resolved by having the engine built with water passages and routing water from the outside through the engine and out the pissers...(I hope I am right on this one)

Market? Who knows. I think it's going to have to be hacked in the beginning. I hope someone can design and build an engine that can be used for different applications, Jetskis will be just another one, that is the key. The powerplant MUST be a common ground that perhaps ATV, scooters and some other Vehicle out there can benefit from their use. NOT Jetski specific as this will be just another application.

That is when the X comes in. Some of us enthusiasts trying to get the most out of THAT engine and a hull and some batteries. I think we can hack it.....at least some of us here are quite the "Macgyver type". I don't see that as the problem.

But we need that engine.....everything else after that will fall into place.

I hope I am right.....

Peace!

actually a motor but same idea. the only problem is funding. if we could get a few peeps to step up and buy stock in the company or build the bed plates and other parts, we would be hundreds ahead!
