Hey thanks. The pipe starts as a 2.5" diameter and ends in 3.0"

The guy who painted it did an alright job at best, I was a bit let down by that and probably could have done a better if sprayed it myself, but I don't have a good compressor. Oh well, the wrap should cover up some of the bubbled, pinholes, dripppy paint. It's at the wrap shop now so we shall see. uploadfromtaptalk1400283525442.jpg

So I am getting my pump aligned today along with a few other things and I am noticing that the guy who painted my ski did not get a clean few layers on the full underside of the boat including the pump tunnel. I know for racing those guys are pretty adamant about having smooth finishes on the underside of their boats to squeak out every last mph, but am I good here for my freestyle-esk boat I am trying to build with quite the abrasive bottom surface?

For function of hookup, speed...etc that will be better then completely glossy smooth. It's the bottom of the ski so I wouldn't be too worried about aesthetics but I would want to be sure the paint is thick enough to give some small layer of protection against wear.

It's Laminar flow, but no. A rough surface creates a boundary layer of air reducing drag at speed. Race boats use 360 grit sandpaper on the bottom to break up the sub-layer of water, creating what's called a hydraulically smooth surface. It can increase top speed by up to 3%.

Lol cheers. Here's a question. The pump is locked in and centered in the midhousing, but when I rotate the drive shaft it seems to have a very small wobble. Almost as if the driveshaft if not pressed perfectly straight into the pump. I'd say maybe a 1/16" of axial center. Is that pretty normal?

And the news is good. I chatted with Jetmaniac real quick and it looks like my shaft wobble is within spec. That being the case, I got a good bit of work done this weekend. Pump aligned, shoe aligned and set, front foothold installed, hood hooks are in, and hood straps locked down too.
