Oh man, a couple of you guys are trying to build up some serious hype.
@hodges22 , I hope you've got a fresh set of drawers ready. First things first. When I built my fiberglass hulls, they weight in close to some of the carbon skis on the market. 68 and 64lbs with hoods, ready to assemble. Maybe my layups are light, but if you guys have ever seen my heavyweight R&D (ride and destroy) rider
@SomeDonnieDude, you'll know that these skis can take some abuse. I suppose the retail industry needs to bulk up the hulls a bit more than needed, even more so if they're not using the best of the best materials. You'll notice that my visual layer is not the standard pretty 2x2 twill that everyone recognizes. I had strength and weight in mind and got lucky that the fabric I used turned out as a sweet visual layer as well. I also stayed away from a tradition coremat or soric that most use and went straight to uni and quad directional cloth for the high stress areas. This helped keep the weight down by not having excess resin. Finally, the resin I used is uv stable, so what you see is popped directly out of the mold with no clear coat or IMC. Again, another way to save weight. I did run a quick buffing compound over everything before assembly.
Well I won't drag this on any longer and start firing some pics and weights out. Also I did verify that my scale is accurate, by referencing it to 2 other calibrated scales.
