So it's winter and I've waited long enough to start this build. It won't be much to read about for now but at least I can post some pics and ask questions for the next few weeks to keep me occupied. This is a glass Chan that was in Trendsetterz booth at the finals. I ordered it August 12th with the intention of picking it up at the finals to avoid shipping costs. Steve offered to paint it for free if it could be on display which seemed like a good deal although flashy paint isn't really a priority for me. I picked orange and trusted that he would make it look good with the only real direction being to stick with a clean, simple theme which I'm sure he prefers anyways. I sent him a few pics of boats that I liked and here it is.He delivered as promised and I couldn't wait to get to the finals to see it. For future reference, its a little tough seeing random people take the hood off and on and off and on over and over again. I tried not to look but couldn't help but to walk by on occasion. It came through with only a few scratches and maybe a chip or two and I'm sure there will be many more soon enough.
I weighed it when I got home and was happy to see the hull, hood and pump shoe with turf come in at 88lbs. Of course that all barely matters now with no more being built but it made me happy. I've had plenty of time to do some research and learn a little since then. I forgot to add that while it was being built, I bought a donor ski. What a mistake!! I should have asked a few more questions. Long story short I bought a WBII for cheap but in the end I have only used the 62T cases. Thank god for the X! I have been able to sell some parts and re-coup my money. I guess the best part was it was fun to take it completely apart and I learned a little in doing so. Knowledge has to be worth something. I still have a shelf of useless parts that I will keep until I'm done.
So back to the Chan. After speaking with a handfull of builders and going back and forth on how much I wanted to spend, I chose to go with a PHP PowerMouse 800cc 4 mil stroker. Zach was offering a great end of the year price and his opinions mirrored my own. I sent him my cases and bed plates and am waiting for it to be finished. He has answered all my questions up to this point and always calls me back.
I'm gonna go with a Skat 148 pump from Impros, PFP, TL and 48 NOVI's at this point. I purposely went with a less expensive motor so I could afford the right parts to finish this old girl. Stuff may change as I get further along but thats where I'm at. I've ordered a few odds and ends from JetManiac along the way and as everyone knows Chris is great. I have my mid-shaft, motor mounts, and hood strap ready to go. More to come……..
