I'd say a combination of the bondline being angled upward which makes the nose appear shorter plus the pole being a little further forward.

the whole hull is shorter in the middle 5 inches or so and the pole is forward and lower as well as the rails are wider for more stabilty

I love smaller ski's and feel most comfortable on an fx1.....Im thiniing this will be right up my alley!
